I’m sure you’ve heard it before, ‘The money is in the list.’ But there is more to it than that. You can’t just get a list from thin air and then magically begin to make huge profits. There is a process involved that you need to follow in order to make serious email profits. Following are the 9 steps for massive email profits:

1. Before sending out your first email, you must first identify the objective of your email marketing campaign. Is the objective to generate sales, create goodwill, get referrals, or expand the size of your list? Regardless of the campaign, you must have a clear purpose.

2. Send your subscribers plenty of free gifts and information that have real value. By doing this, you will develop a relationship with them and they will be more likely to open your emails and buy what you recommend.

3. Keep your message on point. Every word of your email must advance your objective. Don’t include the information about how cute your new baby is if it doesn’t help you achieve your objective.

4. When creating your emails, use short, concise sentences and simple language. Don’t try to impress them with your impressive vocabulary or fancy sentence structure; it won’t work.

5. Make sure your emails don’t contain any spelling errors and are grammatically correct. Make it professional, not funny or cute. Run your finished email through a spelling and grammar checker before hitting the send button.

6. Describe the product or service and tell them how the service or product can help them. Never use hard sell tactics!

7. Familiarize yourself with the email regulations in your jurisdiction and above all, Never Spam!

8. Use software to ensure your emails get through the spam filters. This has become a real problem for list owners. A good email formatting program can double or even triple the number of messages that are opened and acted upon.

9. Repetition sells. Although you shouldn’t send out the exact same email, sending different variations of the same message a week or so apart will increase your conversions.

To be successful online, you need to diversify your sources of income. Never tie your business to one specific product. For that matter, never rely one a single type of product. If the market for that product dries up or begins to slow down, your income will be reduced significantly.

There are many digital products available on the Internet today; ebooks, audio files, video, etc. Digital products represent a very large market on the Internet; billions of dollars in sales are transacted every year.

So you’ve got a million dollar idea and you are ready to cash in by starting your own online business. Where do you start? The first question that you need to ask is how much money do you want to risk? I usually tell clients to stat out by risking as little as possible. There is little sense in spending a ton of money only to find out that your idea was a flop.

The first step is to determine if you want a website or blog. Both options are available free of charge. If you go the website route, you can later convert it over to your own domain name. This will make it easier to do business in the future, but you need some knowledge of html (a website programming language). If you decide to go with a free blog, you need no html knowledge. Entering information on a blog is as easy as using a word processor.

Then you need to determine how you will sell your product idea. Most people on the Internet use a sales page to do their selling. Do a search to find products that are similar to yours. Study their sales pages. Check out the site statistics in Alexa. Is it a large successful site? Use the same basic style of the most successful sites. These sites are successful for a reason; don’t try to re-invent the wheel.

You need a method to allow people to buy your product using credit cards. This is easily done by installing a payment button on your sales page. The process is relatively easy and there are many free options available. PayPal is the first option that comes to mind, but you can find many other free payment processors if you do a search.

You’ve got everything set up, now all you need to do is generate traffic to your site. This is actually the hardest part of running an online business. You can use article marketing, free ads, classified ads, forums, email and a number of other free options to drive traffic to your site. Unfortunately, this is an ongoing process. You will need to do it continually to generate ongoing traffic.

After you have begun to make some money, you can switch over to paid forms of traffic generation. These techniques include pay per click programs, and other type of advertising that you can buy. These techniques can be somewhat expensive but they are less time intensive and they can run on autopilot.

There are 4 basic ways to make money online. You can sell a product, either your own or someone else’s. You can offer a service. You can make money by bringing others into a program. Or you can make money on the sales that others generate. These are the four basic money making techniques online. Of course there are other methods, but these are the main ones.

1. Selling a product.
One of the most profitable methods of making money online is by selling a product. If you don’t have your own product to sell, you can sell products that are sponsored by others through an affiliate program. It is very easy to start an online business selling affiliate products. Your only responsibility is to refer people to the affiliate merchant’s website. When one of your referrals makes a purchase, you collect a commission on the sale. Typical commissions vary from 30% to 75% of the purchase price.

The affiliate merchant takes care of all the details. They are responsible for developing the product, making the sale, delivering the product, arranging for the payment, and delivering the product. Like I said, you are only responsible for sending people to the merchant’s sales page.

2. Offering a service.
Do you have a particular talent or skill that you can offer to others? Following is a short list of just some of the services that are always in demand on the Internet. If you are a good writer, there are thousands of webmasters who would be interested in buying your written content for their websites. There is a ready market out there for artistic work. If you can design ebook covers, graphic banners, CD covers, etc, you can establish a very profitable Internet business.

3 and 4. Many programs will pay you a commission if you refer others into their program. In addition, many of them will give you a percentage of what your referrals sell. These are called tiered programs. You won’t make much money by bringing in just one or two people, but it can add up if you refer a large number of people into the program.

There has never been a better time than now to consider starting a small business. The Internet provides almost limitless opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs. Many people make the mistake of starting an online business based on the recommendation of their cousin Larry without any knowledge about the business.

Before jumping into the first opportunity you hear about, do some research. Make a list of subjects (called niches) that you are interested in and knowledgeable about. On the other hand, searches that show 50 to 100 million sites may be too competitive to make any real money. Look for a balance somewhere in the middle.

After you have narrowed down your list, look for products that are related to your niche. Find 5 to 7 products for each niche. Two good places to go for this information is Clickbank and Commission Junction. Clickbank handles only digital products, Commission Junction handles physical as well as digital products.

Look for products that sell well. Check out the sales pages for each of these products. Are they compelling? Do they make you want to buy it? Choose the 3 best products for each niche.

By using the parameters above, you can easily choose which niche might be the best for you. Armed with this information, you are ready to determine what type of online business is best for you, regardless of what cousin Larry says.

5. You must use methods that funnel interested visitors from your website to your product sales pages. Two effective methods to achieve this is through the use of a list and placing ads on all of your web pages promoting your products.

6. You must have a sales page that converts visitors into buyers. Regardless of whether you are using your own sales page or an affiliate merchant’s. The sales page must convert lookers into buyers.

7. Continually test your results. Most sales pages on the Internet average 1 buyer for every 100 visitors. If you results are less than this, make some changes to improve those numbers. By continually testing, you can improve your results and make more money.

Find products that are popular and selling well. Make sure these products are of good quality and represent good value. You never want to promote a crappy product, you business will never even get off the ground if your products are inferior.

But this list can get you started and point you in the right direction.
