Karr's Confession

Confessing this late in the game has GOT to be the dumbest thing John Karr could do. His crime, assuming he's guilty, is more than deserving of punishment. No one's arguing THAT point, but think about it. What has he got to gain by confessing?
If he's guilty, he's just given up his freedom and (hopefully) his life. If he's not, he not only has the stigma of this false confession and the anger of all who want the fallen beauty queen avenged following him the rest of his life, but he still goes to jail. He ends up serving a much shorter, but still well-deserved sentence for entering a false confession and dashing the hopes of all who want this case solved, most of all JonBennet's father. Any parent would find this angering and devasting all at the same time.
