In a hurricane...here it comes.

The power’s off, the wind is blowing like crazy outside, the rain is beating down on the house from all directions. I live in small down, surrounded by three big rivers, so tropical storms like these tend to make everyone a bit nervous. Especially after the hurricane a few years ago; that year the water came so high that it destroyed five blocks of homes. We don’t live at that end of town, but here the water came right up to the doorstep, and completely flooded the garage.

With tornadoes and hurricane season approaching, it is important to prepare ahead of time just in case you happen to live in the next big storm's path. We live in Texas and after suffering through Hurricane Ritas distructive path, I have made a few suggestions that just might make your survival a little easier.

There are a few things you can do to prepare yourself for a disaster.

1. Keep bottled water on hand...ALL THE TIME...by the time the storm/earthquake hits it is too late. By the time people know it is coming it is too late....the stores are empty.

There are a few things you can do to prepare yourself for a disaster.

1. Keep bottled water on hand...ALL THE TIME...by the time the storm/earthquake hits it is too late. By the time people know it is coming it is too late....the stores are empty.

2. Keep can goods on hand that don't need preparation....you won't have a stove or a microwave....because there is NO ELECTRICITY!

3. Have a portable can opener.....the electric kind won't work...

Hurricane Rita swept through Texas and Louisana. A million people fled Texas. There was no elctricity for days. No gasoline, no water. This time it was a hurricane, for people in the south and midwest it could be a toronado, the west coast an earthquake. But there are a few things you can do to prepare yourself for such a catastophe.

A Cat's Tale

She was lost and abandoned just weeks after her birth. With an impending hurricane bearing down on the city, her chances of survival were few. Still, her will to live kept her pushing on.

My son was walking to friend's house just before Hurricane Rita struck. He saw a small white creature, hardly recongizable pushing her way along side a busy street. As he approached the lost and frightened creature, she made a feeble attempt to run but was too weak to move. She was near death and yet she fought to free herself as he bent down and scooped her up into his arms.
