I just wrote up a fairly poetic blog entry explaining my recent experiences in a diagnostic program with my daughter, but I committed the cardinal sin of bloggerdom - I composed in the uploading tool (as I'm doing now) and I didn't copy my entry. It got sucked into the vortex of Blogger Party, possibly never to be seen again. If you run across an entry titled "Because..." please let me know.

How My Daughter's Allergies Weren't

I've been busy planning a trip to Denver, Colorado, where my now-19-month-old daughter and I (along with my mother, thank goodness) will be spending 16 nights in a hotel and as many days at a hospital.
Negative Can Be Positive When it Comes to Test Results
Submitted by Brenna Fender on February 9, 2008 - 2:27pm. family life | food allergies | HealthOh my, it's been a long couple of weeks. A week ago on Thursday, my 15-month-old daughter had her endoscopy to look for a serious disorder called Eosinophilic Esophagitis. Endoscopies require general anesthetic, so as you can imagine, that whole thing was scary. She came out of it fine, but then we had to wait for the results. Waiting for medical test results is just awful. They were supposed to be available on Monday, but of course the doctor didn't read and sign off on them, so we wound up waiting until 4pm Tuesday. I wish I was someone who loses her appetite when stressed. Sadly, I'm the opposite, I think. Otherwise I could have gotten ahead on my diet and actually accomplished something during those incredibly long few days.
Love the Child, Hate the Food Allergies
Submitted by Brenna Fender on January 29, 2008 - 10:41pm. family life | food allergies | Poetry | toddlersThis week, my darling 15-month-old daughter will undergo an endoscopy to determine whether her severe food allergies are instead part of a life-altering disease called eosinophilic esophagitis. When I was sitting in her bedroom after midnight tonight holding her as she cried, I was inspired to write this poem. It's probably not very good, but it's heart-felt, and it describes the bittersweet life of a mom of a sick child. (Suddenly I'm a little nervous about posting poetry...)
The mixed up life of Brenna Fender
Submitted by Brenna Fender on January 11, 2008 - 8:06pm. allergies | children | family life | food allergies | preschoolers | toddlersThe last few weeks have simulataneously blown chunks and been wonderful.
The chunky moments have been many. Some involved shelling out piles of cash. The car went to the mechanic three times to fix the same problem. The last and hopefully final fix cost $558. One of our dogs had a lump that went whacky so we had to have it removed (and we had her teeth cleaned at the same time because, you know, canine dental hygiene is important). The bill came to $616. The Discover card is getting a workout!
