The Blogger's Code of Ethics

ethics | Geminigma | The Geminian

At great deal has been said about censoring blogs and objectionable content.

Filters are used to screen out keywords and admin is deleting blogs and modifying them at will.

So it occurred to me that a Code of ethics should be agreed upon but I am not capable of solely identifying these ethics.

Of Goosesteps, Municipal Bands, and Children Left Behind

education | ethics | Gestapo | Nazis | No Child Left Behind | O Ceallaigh's Observations | pedagogy

Last night, while I was supposed to be doing something constructive - sleeping would have been good - I was touring blogs. And came across this item by a 5th grade teacher from Las Vegas, who calls herself "Quilldancer". Her write is an op-ed on the state of teaching in these United States, a topic I've been guilty of writing about a few times myself. Like here, and here, and here.

We can keep old people alive when they're dieing, but should we

ethics | Suicide

We live in a world where if you're lucky, and you live in a nice country, you can be sure of a full life, but what about when you're so old , or dieseased that it's machines that are keeping you alive?

When does it switch from being a good thing, to a bad thing, when does it become curle to keep people alive, againstt their own wishes perhaps?

Should patients be allowed to decide, and docters perform a lethal injection, rather than overdosing, or more violent methods?

Not All Lawyers Work For The Good Of Their Clients

attorneys | contingency fees | ethics

Administrators of the September 11th Victims’ Compensation Fund set up for the benefit of those who lost loved ones on that memorable day specifically recommended that lawyers involved in the dispersion and collection of these funds were not to receive contingency fees for themselves. This recommendation would leave 100% of the fund to be distributed to beneficiaries.

Contrary to the committee’s recommendations, one attorney sought a fee of two million plus dollars for representing the widow of a man who died in the attacks. I found it difficult to believe that anyone would seek such outrageous profit from this great tragedy.

Greedy Lawyers Make All Lawyers Look Bad

911 Victims' Compensation Fund | attorney | ethics

I have read a lot of lawyer jokes in my time; some bad and some good. Most of the jokes tend to show the lawyer as the bad guy, and I would imagine that a decent man or woman making a living as a lawyer, would resent constantly being the brunt of such jokes. I know I would.

Just as in every other field, there are lawyers who are honest and who really care about providing service to their clients at the most reasonable cost possible. Unfortunately, it only takes one really bad one to give the whole profession a bad name.

The Irresponsibility of the Christian leadership!

christianity | Church Lies | ethics | Gnostics | Theology

During my studies of the post “Jesus era in the near east, AD 70-325 I was struck by the lack of evidence for any material which would verify that there had been any Christians who believed as they do today.

The Gospels of the Bible which allegedly were written in the second century was without any such evidence.

The leadership of these Christians is such people as the Pope, Bishops and all individuals who have studied the scriptures for they know they are lying to the public on a grand scale.

PETA & Hanging Black People

bigotry | ethics | PETA | prejudice

In nearby Santa Barbara, California, some PETA protesters included in their latest demonstration a large banner depicting two dead black men, hanging. PETA apparently identifying a kinship between the abuse of animals and the plight (past and present) of the black man.

Needless to say, some blacks are miffed.

I am not one to get involved in these sort of identity and territorial disputes, but this one seems uncanny to me. Me, who often identifies with the animal experience. Me, who generally abhors political correctness.
