Well, the big speech is over and Osama bin Barack … uh, I mean Barack bin Laden … oops, I mean Barack Obama has thrown out the gauntlet to the Republicans and the elderly John McCain.

Hate from the pulpit

clinton | Democrat | Discrimi | election | Gay | hate | Obama | politics | Presidency | Religion | white/Black

Obama is having a hard time explaining his involvement in a church where the preacher has been notoriously preaching hate against the white community.

These comments are not new to the black community or the white community. Both races have been guilty of preaching such dogma and hate. The difference here is that Obama is running for the highest office in the world, the President of the United States of America. For Obama to claim that he had no knowledge of Reverend Wright’s speaking of such things is ridiculous. He attended this church for over 20 years. His children were taught by this preacher and he and his wife were married by this preacher. To claim now that he had “no knowledge” of this offensive language is obviously misleading.

Race vs. Sex

barack obama | election | gender | Hillary Clinton | politics | primary | Race | sex

Does anyone else feel like this new flap between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama is all a bunch of nonsense? Sham on both campaigns for being so thin skinned. I don't think that what either Hillary or Bill Clinton said during the New Hampshire primary was racist.

A dangerous way of thinking.

election | female | male | Oprah | politics

A message board I belong to had a suggestion posted to it that I find disturbing. It seems that Oprah has suggested that if all women come together, we could vote in the first female President. That thought scares the hell out of me for several reasons.

First, are we now limiting ourselves to voting based on the anatomy between our legs? The earliest feminists fought so that I could vote. They did not fight so that I could only vote for women, nor was that their hope. Later feminists fought so that I could be considered "equal" to a man. They wanted things such as equal pay for an equal day's work at an equal job. Or the ability to join the military. Or even the ability to decide whether I want to stay home with the kids or get a job. Even that suggestion makes me uncomfortable in most cases because it's not like most men get to decide if they want to stay home and raise the kids. Hell, if some irresponsible woman decides she wants to have kids, "forgets" to take her birth control, and lies to him about it, it's not like he can even decide whether he wants kids or not. So sure, it's all for the greater good, but it's not exactly equality.

My Glee Meter Needs Fixing

election | Issues

I read a blog today where the writer made the statement, "Now that the election is finally over, we can sit back and take a gleeful look at the antics of the Republicans..."

My first thought was, "Gleeful? What was there about the antics of the Republicans or the Democrats that would qualify as being gleeful?"

I guess my glee meter isn't as easily stoked as those of other people, for I found the nasty comments coming from both sides to be equally despicable and hardly gleeful. Neither were honest and above board as they should have been.

The real loser of the election.

election | Lincoln Chafee | loser | politics | Rhode Island | winner

Lincoln Chafee was the only Republican with the guts to vote against the war and President Bush. And I hate to bring something so superficial into it, but he just looks like a nice guy that got his ass handed to him. But he's not exactly the person I'm talking about.

We're the losers. He got voted out, we can presume, because he had an "R" in front of his name. He went into the election with a 62% approval rating, and he went to bed that night having lost his job. And for those who would cheer that it's one more "D" in the Sentate, I'm still not convinced. He did his job, and he voted the way his constituents wanted, and that one insignificant detail held him back. Just today, he has said that he is thinking about leaving the Republican party.

I Can't Wait to Start Complaining

democrats | election | Michael Savage | politics | Republicans | rush limbaugh

[b]Firstly, congratulations to the Democrats. The Republicans have made too many mistakes lately...and it's a wonder the races were even as close as they were. The Dems should've walked away with a lot more votes than what they did. Hell, if I could've voted, I probably would've voted for the Dems, too. But now, onto my rant.

Finally...it's our turn to complain. For the last six years, I've heard nothing but "Bush this" and "Cheney that." Every little thing that happens under Bush's watch - no matter how small or trivial - has been widely criticized and publicized in the media.

Senator...Senator...Virginia Senator?

Democrat | election | government | politics | Republican | senate

In light of the senate election I thought everyone might like to take their minds off of the serious implications of republicans vs democrats and turn our minds to the root of the problem.

The word origin of senator: Senator is from the Latin word "senex," which means "old" and is thus related to being "senile." Well that explains a lot! Thank goodness for Mr. Obama!

It seems that my Commonwealth of Virginia will be one of the deciding factors in wether the Democrats gain control of the senate. Jim Webb (D) is currently in the lead over George Allen(R), but it's still too close to call. The independent candidate Gail Parker has really screwed up the Democrats, taking 1% of the votes.

The Republicans win in a landslide.

Democrat | election | politics | Republican | states

I know, you're thinking my cheese slid off my cracker. I don't know what politics you studied, but the ones I grew up being told about always called the Republicans the party of state's rights. Democrats were always the ones that wanted a big government. And last night, voters decided that they were sick to death of big government and big brother telling them how to act and what to think, and they voted to return power to the states. THEREFORE, we must have voted Republican. Dizzying logic, I know.

Tommorow is the election.

democrats | election | politics | Republicans | us

Tommorow is the US election, and there aren't many excuses sturdy enough to warrant not making it to the polls. The only exception that comes to mind is if you have a MASSIVE coronary on your way to the poll. If that isn't the case, you'd better have your butt there first thing in the morning.

There are 30 states which allow you to vote during work. Check here for more info.

Otherwise known as, you should have done your own homework!

Officials today have announced that because the election is so heated this year, they are taking steps to ease the polls. They are expecting a large voter turnout, and they want to avoid the potential firestorm that is certain to happen when staunch Democrats and fierce Republicans have to meet at the polls. So in order to combat any potential problems, they have announced that they are changing the polling dates somewhat. See below for the proper voting date.

Oprah for Vice President in 2008?

I was watching the news tonight and I saw a story about Hillary Clinton asking Oprah to be her running mate for the 2008 election. Then I turn on this show called Scarborogh Country and they're debating it! What do you think of this?
According to SC, Oprah actually could pull in tons of votes because she is so popular. People really do trust her and she has so much control of the media.

A must read book for any Democrat, or those who want a change in the current administration.

Democrat | election | James Carville | Paul Begala | Republican

I am in the middle of reading a fantastic book by James Carville and Paul Begala, "Take It Back : Our Party, Our Country, Our Future." This book outlines what went wrong with throwing George W. Bush out of office. I am not a Democrat, although I identify more closely with them, and it is easy for me to tell you where they went wrong. Imagine how hard it must be for the authors though. James Carville, the "ragin' Cajun," was the anti-Karl Rove before there ever was a Karl Rove to speak of. Together with Begala, they were responsible for Clinton's election. 'Cause let's face the truth, the candidates are merely speaking the words they are told so that they can get elected. So when they call the Democratic party on shoddy campaign work, you know it means something.
