Doesn't Feel Like Holy Week

Easter | holiday | spring

This year, it feels like Easter is way too early; it just doesn't feel like it should be time for Easter yet. It feels like we just got finished recovering from the Christmas holiday, and now here we are staring down Easter! The calculations used for determining when the Easter day will fall sounds so complicated, and this year it happens to be on almost the earliest possible day.

Sugar free Easter fun

Easter | FREE | fun | overeating

As a society we consume more candy and sugar on Easter than all other holidays, except Halloween. Something about the fasting and abstinence during the weeks leading up to Easter makes us more open to the practice of downing as many sugar-coated marshmallows and crème eggs as our insulin levels can stand, and usually guilt free. Of course, there are many people who can’t partake of the annual sugar infused ritual of tearing into a basket of goodies, and Easter should be no less enjoyable for them. Whether you’re watching your waistline or your blood sugar, here are some sugar free, fun alternatives to pop into those Easter baskets this year:

Happy Easter all!

Easter | holidays | Jesus Christ | Kids | teaching esl

I hope all of you and your families had a wonderful Easter.

My oldest son got to go to a total of 3 easter egg hunts. The first one was at school, and the other two were public ones.

He had a lot of fun, but unfortunately it was freezing. Literally. On saturday, the temperature here was about 30 degrees at 10 AM. Today is a little warmer, but still cold.

We had a good time at church today, and everyone seemed in truly high spirits.

Remission is oh so sweet.

Cancer | chemo | Easter | remission

The big news of this week is that I am in remission!! I had a CAT scan done last week and got the results back on Mon. The scan showed that there is no eveidence of cancer at this time. They scanned my lungs, liver, kidneys, spleen, and intestines. It is such a relief to be done with chemo and then to have such a great report. I will continue to go in for monthly blood checks and bi-monthly Dr. visits. But, I feel like now I can begin to get my life back again.

Empty Manger or Empty Tomb

Christmas | Easter | Jesus Christ

I recently heard a story of a church pastor who found that the baby Jesus was missing from the church's manger scene. I would like to tell you that story at another time.

For now I just wanted to share this contrast that came to mind. The empty cradle in the manger is really bad news, whereas, the empty tomb is really good news.

Lest I'm being too vague, here is what I am really saying. An empty cradle would mean that somehow the plan of redemption for lost mankind that God had held in His heart from eternity past had been changed. We do not know how this could have happened, we cannot understand. The truth of the matter is that if Jesus Christ had not taken on the form of a man following His birth from the Virgin Mary, then there would be no hope of salvation, no hope of heaven for anyone. All who will be saved must know that their salvation rests on the life of that Baby Jesus.

Sports Betting has junk in the trunk. FREE picks too!!!

Baseball | basketball | dining | Easter | Food | Gambling | Make Money | models | sex | SOPRANOS | sports betting

I hope everyone had a nice holiday. I actually threw together an Easter dinner on a whim. I made a turkey, green beans, candied yams, macaroni and cheese, and gravy. I wanted to make a ham too, but I didn’t have the funds. No matter. What I made was pretty tasty. I have the testimonials and pictures to prove it. With my personality, and my adept culinary abilities, and my bedroom skills, I have to say I am a pretty good catch. So, Vito Spatafore did not get the axe last night. It won’t be long. It may appear as if Tony is going to spare him his life and I think deep down he wants to, but the pressure from everyone around is going to be too much. I was kind of upset the Ten Commandments did not come on last night. Apparently it came on Friday? What ever happened to tradition, people? Anyways, the Mets and Lakers kicked ass yesterday. I know the MVP race is "wide open" this year, but I think Kobe is the winner. Bottom line. I had yet another bad betting day in basketball. As good as I was last week, I was equally as bad this week. I’ll try to do better. On the bright side I was 10-4 in baseball. Apparently there is a game on already. It appears to have started at 11 am est. Nonsense. And because I love you all out there I have enclosed a special link to one of my favorite pictures of Buffy the Body. It is not only because of her enormous rump, but it is a nice pic from an artistic standpoint. Her waist and hips are measured at 27 and 45 inches respectively. Let that thought soak in. Not all lines are out so check in later. Here’s the deal:

A piss poor showing for the second straight day. Oh wow! I almost forgot today was Easter. Happy Easter and Happy Bunny Day for atheists and people that practice other religions. I remember when I was a little kid, Easter was a big thing. You always got a new outfit to wear to church. I must have been 6 the year I got 2 new suits. One powder blue, one yellow, with just a white tee underneath. I was like the baby Don Johnson. Or Sonny Crockett if you will.

Easter for the Here and Now

christianity | Easter | forgiveness | Gnosticism | O Ceallaigh's Observations | resurrection

Easter is upon us. Literally, in the Far East as I (and bugsey) write. Unless you're Orthodox, in which case it's next week, not this week. Don't ask me. The whole idea is that this unorthodox and countercultural Jewish rabbi got himself killed and then resurrected into life, in accordance with his (or his group's) interpretation of the oracles of Isaiah. He had a cup of coffee with his disciples and then was transported into Heaven. Where he should have been in the first place. Maybe he left his wallet on the Last Supper table, like I do when I drive to the supermarket, and he had to come back to get it. Amazing, the things that an editor can choose to leave out of a story. This resurrection into eternal bliss after death is promised to all who claim to be witnesses of what happened to Jesus. So I have a question: why is anybody here?

Some remaks for Easter Weekend (by BigBadJohnny)

Easter

Good morning, good day, gentle reader.

Since it is Easter weekend in America and in the Christian world, I will repeat my insights into the crucifixion of Jesus.
Love also to you, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, atheist, whatever your personal philosophy of this wondrous life.

I noted years ago that there was something going on here (In the Bible, I mean.)
