Wilfred Crude wouldn't play ball. As a talented graduate student closing in on his PhD, he breached several "rules" and was denied his doctorate at a Canadian university -- one of many (60 percent) students who fail to achieve the PhD even after years of study.
Crude ended up self-publishing accounts of his experience to rave reviews, but will always remain an academic outcast.
Now the case of Theodore Streleski is quite different because of his ultimate solution -- killing his professor after failing to achieve PhD status after an incredible 19 years of work at Stanford.
But the arrogance of academic sometimes surpasses the stomach of the society around it. One of the first things revolutionaries did during the French Revolution was round up all the university professors and execute them.
Come 1917, that's what Leon Trotsky and the Bolsheviks ended up doing -- assassinating or sending to Siberia almost every college professor in Russia as the czar was overthrown and the Communists seized power.
In Cambodia during the 1970s, the Khmer Rouge saw every educated person as a threat to their new vision of Cambodia and started, first thing, by killing all the university professors. But they didn't stop there, executing all teachers, period, and then all people who wore glasses.
So, the solution in America is easy: Kill all the PhDs and our problems are solved. The PhD is a nasty invention anyway, derived from Prussian sources in the 19th century. It is earned through virtual slavery of a student by a professor for a number of years.
If people knew exactly what goes on during the PhD process, university programs would be shut down overnight. The abuse heaped on hopeful graduate students -- and there slavery as teachers and "gofers" for their academic masters -- is legendary.
More will be appearing on this topic later, but rest assured there is no surprise when strange events like the Duke lacrosse team rape scandal and other similar events come to pass.
And if you're a parent seeking out a "nice" university for your high school graduate, forget it. There are none.
Better to plan a career in retail or high-tech. Or, just blog for a living. At least you won't be squelched, abused, run into the ground, backstabbed and ass-raped by academia.
Trust me. 'Tis not worth it.
