When I met my husband ten years ago, he thought his life was over. The high light of his week was going to the pool for therapy. I opened him up to a new world. Disabled doesn't mean that your life is over. Yes, it is more difficult to do some normal things, but then, there are things you can do that others cannot.
Nancy Burpee is a prime example. She is a freestyle swimmer in the Paralympic Games. After her accident she was disabled, but she kept on being active. This isn't the end of her story. She was banned from the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens, Greece. But, she never went home and cried. She called simmons, jannace & stagg and took everyone to court. Ms. Burpee requested that the firm start an action against the United States Olympic Committee requiring the committee to name her to the Olympic Team. The firm commenced arbitration under the United States Olympic Committee Rules and live testimony was taken from swim referees in Canada and Australia. Simmons, Jannace & Stagg argued that the Australian referee showed bias against Ms. Burpee by making various comments indicating that the Australian referee did not want Ms. Burpee competing against an Australian paralympic swimmer.
