Not being a reader of the best selling lists of books, I waited for the movie. I even waited two weeks and went in the afternoon. Eight people were scattered over the entire theatre as the commercials began. At the end of what seemed like a hundred trailers, the opening credits rolled up on the screen. I had heard bits and pieces of critiques of the movie and knew the Catholic Church was opposed to the movie, as well as most Protestant churches.

Da Vinci Code Ruling: Is This a Surprise?
Submitted by gom jabbar on April 7, 2006 - 3:01pm. copyright | Da Vinci Code | Dan Brown | plagiarism | Random House | trialWith all the talk about plagiarism around here lately, it seemed all too appropriate that the judge's ruling for The Da Vinci Code copyright infringement trial would be announced today. High Court judge Peter Smith concluded that Dan Brown did not steal his ideas for his bestselling novel from Holy Blood, Holy Grail (or The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail, the international title) as Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh (two of the book's three authors) had claimed. (For those who are not familiar with the trial, this blog covers the initial details.) Does this really surprise anyone?
Da Vinci Code Rivalry?
Submitted by gom jabbar on March 28, 2006 - 4:10pm. book | Da Vinci Code | Dan Brown | Jesus | Mary Magdalene | trialDan Brown clearly has a courtroom rival in Michael Baigent, one of the authors involved in The Da Vinci Code copyright infringement case. However, this rivalry may very well extend to the extend to bestseller lists.
Today, Da Vinci Code hit the shelves in paperback with an advance printing of 5 million copies. Also released today was Baigent's follow up to Holy Blood, Holy Grail entitled The Jesus Papers: Exposing the Greatest Cover-Up in History. As with his previous work, he supposes that Jesus married Mary Magdalene and sired a child, and he further speculates that Jesus did not die on the cross, supporting "theories" based on documents he has yet to track down. With or without these documents, his book will no doubt find conspiracy theorists and religious skeptics.
