Coin Collecting as a Hobby

Submitted by NAGATLAKSHMI on August 1, 2007 - 5:39pm. coin collecting | coins | numismaticOld coins that is. Try looking under that old dresser, or up the attic where grandma or grandpa’s things may be stashed away patiently waiting for you to discover them. Who knows, you might find a coin there, an old coin that – at today’s rate - may be worth a few dollars; probably three or four or five, even ten times what the coin was worth back then.
Ancient Coins as Collections
Submitted by NAGATLAKSHMI on August 1, 2007 - 5:34pm. coin collecting | coins | numismaticCollecting coins is so much fun! It is both a hobby and a source of income for many. One type of coin that you may want to consider collecting is ancient coins. Many collectors hesitate to buy ancient coins to collect because they can be terribly expensive. What is most important is the uniqueness of these coins and the benefits they provide their collectors.

I once read in a treasure magazine that a treasure hunter was curious about why he would find coins in one yard that dated from the 1910's and 20's and from the 40's or 50's in another yard. His opinion was that perhaps there was a lot of kids in that particular yard during those times that were careless with thier money.
Mr Spock is that YOU???
Submitted by Sassys on April 18, 2007 - 9:30am. coins | God; team; sport; competitionThis ones for my pal Pussy Willow...she gets her just desserts!
They call him Mr. Spock
For he's always on the clock
Known to the Shat as a brat
He'll beam you up STAT
Unlike the Dr. Spock we know
This Spock is an old pro
His ears are a real treat
Almost like Pussy Willows feet
So beam me up Spock
For you are the stock
This poem is a crock
And Pussy Willow rocks!
My husband, the geek

I saw a web release today about silver. It was talking about silver bars and how you can buy gold, silver, and other precious metals from them. The web release told how gold and silver bullion is cast into either coins or ingot. Now, none of this is new info to me. My husband has collected coins for years, and everytime we visit his family, he sits around the kitchen table bouncing coins of particular dates off the floor. Something about that tells them whether they are made of silver or not.

Scarlett O'Hara Did It. You should too!
Submitted by marleymauve on June 22, 2006 - 5:17pm. coins | gold | investingIn the sequel to Gone with the Wind, Scarlett by Alexandra Ripley, when Scarlett O'Hara heard that tough times were coming, she'd convert all her paper money into gold bars. She evolved into
quite the shrewd business woman.
I know that Scarlett is a fictional character but many people to this day with financial savvy are investing in real wealth these days instead of paper money.
Diamonds, silver and gold are what some of our richest citizens are investing in. I remember reading a story about people in the depression carrying around wheel barrows full of money and it was useless.
