So I was listening to NPR today when they played Storycorps. These are personal stories people record giving an oral slice-of-life. I normally don't pay too much attention to them but this one caught my attention. If there ever was proof that it's not the situation, it's how you react to it that determines your mood, this was it! The actually story can be found here: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=89164759

Movie: The Nativity Story
Submitted by djbtol on December 23, 2006 - 7:54am. Christian | Christmas | David Blaine | movie | Sesame StreetAre you planning to check out the new Christams movie? It's called 'The Nativity Story' and the previews looked good. I haven't made it yet, but I sure do hope to.
The professional critics seem to be giving it a C or B-, but what do they know. They are often not in synch with regular folks. From the reviews I have read, I understand that the story is well told and most anyone can be drawn into the lives of Mary and Joseph during that critical time. The script is supposedly well aligned with scripture. Of course, it is only fitting that the most wonderful true story be told truthfully.
Emmanuel- God with us
Submitted by jwensink on December 10, 2006 - 4:57pm. Cancer | Christian | Christmas | inspirationalThis morning in church we read part of the Christmas story in Matthew 1:18-25. One part in particular struck me. It said that His name shall be called Emmanuel which means "God with us". I had heard these words many times before, but today they had a bigger meaning. The very name of Jesus, also Emmanuel, means that God is with us. God sent His Son to earth to be with us, to become human. His whole name reminds us that we are never alone.
A Lesson From A Cop's Wife - Leave Nothing Unsaid

My husband's friend and co-worker (a fellow officer) died this morning after being involved in a horrific car accident.
As always, when someone dies so suddenly we start to question our relationships with those who mean the most to us.
Has anything been left unsaid? Have we said things we regret? Have we said "I'm sorry" for the small things?
Baptism Invitations
Submitted by angelface79 on October 15, 2006 - 12:47pm. baby's baptism | baptism | baptist | Christian | ReligionA child's baptism is a very important time in their life. There is alot of planning that goes into it as well.
A very important part of this is the baptism invitations. You want something that is going to reflect this special event. With a baptism invitation, you can simply address it and send it on its way. You might even want to get matching thank you notes as well.
Gay Marriage

In a committed relationship and want the world to know it? Then you’re probably as anger as I am that gay marriages are being outlawed. The Christian God I serve promotes LOVE. I just can’t see Him seeing ANY true expression of love as being a sin.
I am a legally ordained minister offering a way around the gay marriage ban for same-sex couples longing to show the world they are committed for life: certificate of love.
Amy Grant "Find A Way"
Submitted by Pop Go The 80s on July 21, 2006 - 4:40am. 1985 | adult contemporary | album | Amy Grant | Christian | pop | Top 40 hitBeginning in 1977, singer Amy Grant had become arguably the most popular act in Contemporary Christian music with a string of smash albums, including a pair that topped that genre's album chart. So it was quite a surprise when the singer, whose previous material had been more gospel-oriented, took a pop direction, adding more electric guitar and keyboards, for her 1984 album Straight Ahead.
Hearts and Minds

Christian | God | gospel | Jesus | Philosophy | rationalism | Romans | Romanticism | sinFor although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. The Christian gospel starts not with a solution but with a problem. Mankind is under the wrath of God because they are actively suppressing the truth that he has revealed about himself in and through the created world.
First, the Bad News
Submitted by atlanticworld on July 1, 2006 - 4:50pm. Bible | Christian | God | gospel | Jesus Christ | letter to the Romans | New Testament | Paul | wrathThe wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness Romans 1:18
We have seen that Paul begins his presentation of the gospel by stating the problem which the gospel addresses. The problem is that the wrath of God is revealed against human sin.
We have also briefly considered some of the objections to the fact that God possesses wrath and seen that, far from being a comforting idea, the concept of an anger-free God is actually a deeply worrying one. If true, it means that the universe is ruled by a being who is indifferent to evil. This is hardly a comfort.
Mommy, Can I become a Christian?
Submitted by lboy8003 on June 29, 2006 - 11:40am. ChristianBelieve it or not... my answer was No.
To expand... Ricky was showing a medal (plastic) that he got a Sunday school years ago saying he got it when he became a Christian (he didn't, he just doesn't remember when he got it)... so Katie replies, "ooooo, Mommy, can I become a Christian today?" Katie has been asking this question often, but it seems to always correlate with wanting to receive a lesser consequence for a bad choice made, or that she thinks she can get something cool for doing it (ie. our approval and attention or things like necklaces, ect).
So Far so Good
Submitted by atlanticworld on June 26, 2006 - 10:56pm. Bible | Christian | evangelical | God | gospel | Martin Luther | New Testament | RomansThe wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness Romans 1:18
Up to now, Paul has been introducing himself, greeting his readers and explaining that he hopes to visit Rome soon.
In the course of these introductory remarks, Paul has already said a great deal about the core message of his letter - the gospel of God. From this point on, however, he begins to expound this central theme in much greater detail. It is as if Paul is saying to the believers in Rome, "I'm a servant of the gospel, I'm planning on visiting you in Rome - here is the gospel that I serve."
The Heart of the Gospel
Submitted by atlanticworld on June 11, 2006 - 1:18pm. Bible | Christian | evangelical | God | gospel | justification through faith | New TestamentI am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith." Romans 1:16-17
This entry is without doubt the most important post I have submitted so far in this examination of Paul's letter to the Romans. We now come to the very heart of the message he delivers in the letter and, therefore, the very heart and essence of the Christian gospel. Here is the Christian message, expressed clearly and simply. I pray you have ears to hear its powerful message.
