My house is, affectionately, referred to as "The Temple of Bast" by my friends, and for good reason. Every cat in the neighborhood hangs out at my house. I feel like I've reached "crazy cat lady" status far too early!

Caring For Orphaned Kittens

Submitted by pangeacat on July 15, 2008 - 12:58am. animals | cat | cats | crazy cat lady | feral | furry | indoor | kittens | kitties | kitty | pets | straysI'm only 26 years old (at least, I think that's right. I tend to forget my own birthday sometimes), and I'm already the crazy cat lady of the neighborhood. It's really kind of sad.
A couple years ago, I went to a movie with a friend of mine. During the previews, they had one of those TLC "life lessons" commercials. There was a woman walking around her apartment, seemingly asking a partner what they'd like to watch that night. As she rounded the corner, you saw that she was actually talking to a group of cats lying on her bed. The narrator came on and said, "Dating is awkward. But, so is being the crazy cat lady." At least, it was something to that effect.
How We Got Our Third Cat
Submitted by Lorianna on April 6, 2008 - 9:25pm. animal shelter | cat adoption | cat behavior | cats | pet shelter | petsWe had two cats, and both my husband and I had agreed that it was enough for our household. Our cats, both male and both former strays, were getting along great and adding a lot of fun to our life. Why take in more and risk getting your house overrun by felines?
Responsible Pet Ownership
Submitted by Lorianna on March 17, 2008 - 9:28pm. cats | dogs | pet ownership | pets | responsibility | responsible pet ownership“You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed,” said Antoine de Saint-Exupery. I completely agree with him.
When I was little, my mother had made sure I understood very well that owning a pet meant taking some serious and long-term responsibilities. She had explained to me more than once that when you adopt a kitty or a puppy, you have to take care of them, no matter what happens. They need to be fed, cleaned, trained, interacted with, and treated if they become ill, whether you have time / desire / means to do it or not. Mom made it clear to me that there was no “trial time” when it comes to pet ownership. Pets are not toys; you can’t take one, play with it, and then throw it away when you get bored with it. Mom had made sure I knew about the unpleasant responsibilities, too: “If your kitty throws up on the floor, you will have to clean up the mess, and if your puppy has diarrhea, you will have to wipe his butt.”
Cat Training Tips: Consider The Personality
Submitted by Lorianna on February 18, 2008 - 10:38am. cat behavior | cat personality | cat psychology | cat training | cat training tips | cats | petsCat training can be difficult because each cat has a unique personality that they want respected, pretty much like us people. Unlike dogs who just want to please and are happy to follow orders when they understand them and see clear rewards, cats will not be so easily persuaded into doing something. There are things they like and things they don’t like. Forcing them to do what they do not like does not work, ever.

If you think your fat kitty looks cute, think about how you would feel if the kitty's heart failed and you lost him / her.

My Silly Cats
Submitted by Lorianna on February 10, 2008 - 12:39pm. cat food | cats | feeding cats | food bowl | funny cats | petsEvery morning, my silly cats wake me up demanding that I fill their bowls. There are three of them, and the task is strategically split: one gets on the bed and purrs into my ear; if that does not work, the other one starts scratching the wall. When I do get up, they lead me to their food bowls where the third one already sits on display, as if to say, "Yes, we are all hungry!!"

Adopting a Siamese Cat
Submitted by Faith on August 10, 2007 - 12:55pm. cats | pets | Siamese CatsMy husband and I decided to buy a cat before his business trip to San Francisco. We went to a pet store near our home that had cats for adoption. Upon entering the store, we spotted a big Siamese cat, among the other cats. My first Siamese cat was Tippy, who I owned at the age of five. So I have considerable affection for the Siamese Breed. We promptly told the attendant, at the cat adoption area that we wanted to see the Siamese cat.

He loves to follow u around all the time when u are doing things because he is always hungry. This cat will eat and eat and eat he will even eat dog food after an hour if we are not around to feed him. He is one of those cats that will meow and meow until he gets what he wants. He loves to go outside and over to a field behind our home and chase cows (Don't ask me what he is thinking).

Submitted by One Voice on January 31, 2007 - 7:29pm. cats | dogs | get on tv | HGTV | home makeover | reality showsPlease note the website previously listed was incorrect. I have since received the correct website and have it listed below. The website is a breeders club of sorts and the breeders are throughout the States. On the websites it does look like there is some shipping offered and gives you instructions on how to contact the breeder and they will let you know the process of what and how they do it.
