Most people in Tulsa probably know, but others may not, about an appalling crime that happened just days ago.

Vicki Chiles, who ran a daycare out of her home, had been charged recently with Abuse of a Minor, but allowed to keep operating her daycare and no parents were notified. Since recieving her license in 2002, DHS had made at least 3 unannounced visits per year, and many of these visits had yeilded serious violations, in addition to multiple complaints regarding Chiles and child abuse.

So the toilet training is going well. The hole in the tray is roughly an inch in diameter now. Both cats are using it well. No probs to report!

So I'm gonna start enlarging the hole again, but very, very slowly so as not to cause too much upset with Phoebe.

I'll let you know how it goes.

So back to the start again.

I bought another tray and made a very small hole in it.

Unfortunately, Joey's rare bout with urinary tract crystal formation resurfaced a few days ago. I got that sorted out but what surprised me the most was the fact that despite his need to go to the toilet every 15 minutes or so for about 3 days straight, he still used the tray! Impressive.

So now he's fine again (I'm glad, that crystal thing can kill male cats in less than 24 hours. It would have been ironic to lose him to a stupid crystal formation problem rather than to the fall he took from our 4th floor flat window, which he survived with a mere graze!) we are back to the toilet-training.

Hello folks,

So I managed to get another tray. I've filled it up with litter and put it on the toilet bowl under the toilet seat. I showed Phoebe where it is and she peed in it straight away.

Good.

Joey's carrying on as usual, ones and twos without a fuss. So he gets lots of praise. Phoebe got some too when she used the new tray.

So the plan now is to take it at a snail's pace. I'm going to leave it a couple of weeks just to make sure they are both used to it, more for Phoebe's sake.

Well Phoebe is really getting bad now. I really thought she was the smarter of the two. Obviously not.

She's made it a new habit of peeing and pooing under the couch in the same spot when I'm asleep.

I had her in the bathroom for ages last night trying to show her where to go. I even made her watch Joey performing to see if it would encourage her. I keep putting her on the tray but she's either not getting it or being deliberately evasive and ignorant to my encouraging actions.

Update for ya on the toilet training of my cats.

Well I just discovered Phoebe's new alternative to just using the litter tray like Joey does. She does it, ones and twos, under the sofa.

Nice. >:¬(

So it's back to locking me and her in the bathroom til she gets it through to her oh so tiny brain.

It totally bemuses me how the not too intelligent one of the two has taken to this no problems at all but the more intelligent one has a major problem with it. Why?

Hi there folks,

So here's an update for you on the toilet-training of my cats.

After Phoebe decided that water in the bottom of the bath was not going to stop her from peeing in there I had to take drastic action.

After I got wee baby in bed, I saw Phoebe sneaking quietly past me into the bathroom, so I followed her in there. And locked the door behind us.

She seemed to think I was there to either be nice to her or give her a doing. I did neither. I just sat on the edge of the bath and waited. She spent a long time just staring at me as if to say 'what?'. Then her bodily processes started getting the better of her and she began frantically searching for a place to do her business. Of course, with me sitting there making sure she didn't go anywhere unsuitable, she wasn't quite sure what to do (or at least acting bloody stupid).

Well things seem to have improved somewhat.

I managed to catch Joey at it. Boy can he pee! Seriously, I was standing there for one whole minute while he emptied his bladder! I mean, I know he's a big cat, very big, but jeez la weez!

His positioning was good, all four feet planted on the toilet seat. I haven't seen Phoebe use the tray at all today. I think she's on strike. That's fine, but she's obviously cutting off her tail to spite her ass! LOL

Well sh*t.

My suspicions were right.

I moved too fast, over-eager to progress beyond the oh-my-god-how-the-bathroom-stinks stage to the plippety-plop-of-excretions-in-the-toilet-bowl stage.

Phoebe (to my complete surprise, she's the 'I'm so good and cute' cat, and the more intelligent of the two) displayed her disapproval of my increasing the size of the hole in the litter tray to about 2 inches in diameter by crapping in the goddamn bath!

Hi guys,

Here's where I am with the toilet training. Last night I widened the hole in the litter tray so now it's about an inch and a half in diameter.

All seems to be progressing swimmingly, with Joey and Phoebe depositing successfully as if nothing had ever been any different!

I have also decreased the amount of litter in the tray now to just a baby handful of granules. There are two reasons for this:

Ok so here's what I've got for yas.

I am sick to death of cat litter. I've just had enough of sweeping the stuff up, trying to get rid of the dust, post-shower stabs in the feet, the smell, the sight, everything!

I'm sick of my big beast of a male cat, Joey, somehow managing to piss underneath the litter box, and they ain't little piddles either! I'm fed up with finding cat litter everywhere. It's his aim you see. I think he thinks he has a giant thingy, so huge that it doesn't even fit in a 2ft by 1ft litter box! Whatever.
