If you allow your house to go to foreclosure not only do you ruin your credit but it makes getting a house again much more difficult and you have to wait sometimes at least 5 years.

Don't count on the pay date for Bill Pay!

banks | checks | fees | Finances | us bank

I've been using Bill Pay through US Bank for quite awhile now. I really like it. Most of the bills I pay are not able to be electronically transfered, so generally it gives a pay date of five days in the future. Last week though, I found out that this is not accurate.

Netflix: A Great Service

bank | banks | DVD | federal government

Netflix is an online DVD rental service that eliminates all the hassles of going to an actual video store. What hassles you say? For starters the late fees! You never have to pay late fees with Netflix, because you can keep the DVD’s for as long as you want. Secondly, the drive to the video store! Netflix DVD’s are delivered right to your mail box. If you’re wondering about the selection, they have 70,000 in stock. I’ve browsed through their new releases, action and adventure, drama, independent and comedy; just to name a few out of their 200+ genres. I can’t think of a single film that Netflix doesn’t have.

Have you ever tried to use a checkcard as a credit card at Wal-Mart, just to find that it's run through as a debit card?

This would be fine, but my bank charges a fee everytime this is done. And as far as I knew there was no way around it. Until I went to K-Mart.

At K - Mart, the same thing happened. I went to run it through and it was giving me the debit card option only. But the cashier told me a trick.

Whatever happened to the Christmas Club at the bank?

banks | investing | money | savings

Does anyone remember the Christmas Club?

As a little girl, I can remember my grandmother going to the bank once a week with several booklets. They would stamp each booklet and tear a sheet out. It was the Christmas Club.

She would use that money at the end of the year to buy Christmas gifts, which in her case was an envelope with money. She even had me to do a Christmas Club one time, which I think was $5.00 a week.

Credit checks to open bank accounts

bad credit | banks | credit checks | credit reports

I have recently decided to open a new bank account as I wasn't happy with the bank I was with and found out that banks seem to do credit checks no matter what account you want to open even a basic account.
They even want to do a credit check even if they are giving you no debit card or credit facilities just for a standard account with a cash card. I think that this is ridiculous. Fair enough if they are giving you an account where you could get into debt with credit facilities but just for a basic account where you can't even use a debit card I think that is just stupid.
