A lot of us like bananas, although the unique taste of bananas had to grow on some people, like me. When I was a kid growing up, I hated bananas and never really cared for the taste, but they eventually grew on me.

Perhaps the pictures of the devastation in North Queensland have already been beamed around the world for all to see. Few properties in the path of the cyclone were spared, and the residents of Innisfail and Babinda will have months and years of rebuilding of the homes, their properties, their businesses and their lives.

State and Federal authorities have been pretty quick to get the rescue efforts underway - but it is a monstor issue for them all. Many people are homeless, schools are wrecked, businesses are inoperable, crops are smashed. They have no water, sewerage and electricity and the rain is bucketing down - somehting that is always an aftermath of a cyclone.

Yesterday, just over 24 hours ago, cyclone Larry unleased its fury on the people of Innisfail North Queensland causing great devastation. Homes were destroyed, banana and sugar crops were flattened, trees uprooted, and lives destroyed.

And another cyclone, codenamed Wati, hangs off the Queensland coast with a path estimated to follow that of Larry.

Winds of up to 295 km/hour whipped through the area, leaving it its wake a path of destruction as it heads west.
