Beginning in 1977, singer Amy Grant had become arguably the most popular act in Contemporary Christian music with a string of smash albums, including a pair that topped that genre's album chart. So it was quite a surprise when the singer, whose previous material had been more gospel-oriented, took a pop direction, adding more electric guitar and keyboards, for her 1984 album Straight Ahead.
