Another important characteristic is the polyphony; this is the combination of different musical parts played simultaneously.

More than 38 million people around the world are infected by HIV/AIDS, 25 million in Africa alone. Left untreated, AIDS leads to an early death for people in their most productive years who are needed to raise crops and families, teach school and care for the sick. Few Words From Bono

As Product (RED) launches in America, opening a new front in the war against AIDS, a few words from Bono:
"Sometimes when I'm walking down the street a passer by will say "love your work on Africa Bono, great cause." Sometimes, they wish they hadn't. As I'm Irish, I love to talk to strangers. I love to talk about Africa. It can be hard to get away. . . Each time it makes me think we need to do much more to get the message across that this is not a 'cause,' this pandemic that we and so many others are working on. 5,500 Africans dying a day of AIDS, a preventable, treatable disease is not a cause. 5,500 Africans dying each day is an emergency.

Seeing RED
Bono has launched Product RED, a global brand which will raise funds to fight AIDS in Africa. It's not philanthropy, he said, but 'doing good, will turn out to be doing good business.'
The launch of RED took place in Davos, Switzerland today, when Bono and Bobby Shriver joined with American Express, Gap, Converse and Giorgio Armani to unveil the T-shirts, shoes, sunglasses and credit card which are the first items in the new line.
Why United States only rarely interferes in Africa?
Submitted by abhilash on June 3, 2006 - 7:56am. Africa | politics | United StatesUnited States of America considers itself as the custodian of democracy. They cannot tolerate any totalitarian regimes. They will go to any extent to see that democracy is restored. They did it in Iraq. Now they are after Iran.
The worst totalitarian regimes and murderers of democracy exist in Africa. The classic example is the suffering of a section of Sudanese people in the Darfur region. Mass rapes and refugees are an every day story. Numerous other African nations are starving and dictators and warlords control these nations. Apart from a very bad experience in Somalia, United States is rarely interested in assuring in democratic regimes in Africa. No idea, why this double standard.
Where is Cote D’Ivoire?
Submitted by abhilash on June 3, 2006 - 7:51am. Africa | Fifa 2006 | Ivory CoastMost of us might not have a clue about Cote D’Ivoire. But we all know Ivory Coast – world’s largest cocoa producer. Cote D’Ivoire is the official name of Ivory Coast and the nation has qualified for Fifa World Cup 2006. The cocoa for the chocolates we eat comes from this nation.
Ivory Coast is located in Western Africa. It is bordered by Mali and Burkina Faso in the north, Ghana in the east, Liberia and Guinea in the west and by Gulf of Guinea in the south. The country was under French control before its independence on August 7, 1960. This is the reason for the French connection in the official name. Like other African nations, Ivory Coast also had its share of civil wars and internal strives.
Human Evolution: Out of Africa or Made in America?
Submitted by namingame on March 1, 2006 - 12:37am. Africa | america | Evolution | Human EvolutionThis evening, I attended a presentation about human evolution. One of the greatest points that I took away from the meeting is the growing controversy surrounding the question of human evolution. Did we all come from Africa as modern science dictates, or did we evolve in the Americas as recent evidence suggests?
