If you have your own website (or blog), regardless of whether it is a paid or free site, there are steps you can take to increase the income you are making each month. If your site is getting some traffic you should be using some sort of paid advertising on your site. This advertising won’t make you rich, but it can provide you with a fair amount of extra income each month.

One of the easiest and most popular advertising programs is Google’s Adsense program. It is free to register and very easy to set up. Once you have entered the code onto your site, you only need to cash checks. That is your only job.

To maximize your Adsense income, add more additional relevant pages to your site. The more content you provide, the more ads you can place. An added benefit of adding more content is the probability that your traffic may also increase. This dual benefit translates into more money in your pocket.

Ad placement is also an important factor in maximizing your Adsense income. If Adsense represents a prime income source for your website, give your Adsense ads prime placement on your site. Do not bury the ads at the bottom of your site below your content. Ads placed in the upper left hand corner of your site, adjacent to your main content perform the best.

You can also place ads just above the main content of your page as well as in the middle of a block of content. Put them in places where visitors are sure to see them. This I the way to maximize your advertising revenue.

If you have a website that is getting any traffic at all, I strongly suggest that you consider using Adsense. It doesn’t cost you anything and can only improve your bottom line.

If you are interested in making money online, you are probably familiar with all of the standard money making techniques; Adsense, affiliate programs, contextual links, signature files, etc. These are all pretty standard within the industry and they work quite well.

Most webmasters place Adsense as well as ads for other publishers and give them premium placement on their sites. Even though they will only make a few cents per click, some sites bring in thousands of dollars in advertising every month. However, very few small sites bother to place ads for their own (or affiliate) products on their site and this is a big mistake. On a per click basis, each click on your own product’s ad can easily be worth 2 or 3 times what you are getting from other advertisers.

For that reason, I always place ads for my own (and affiliate) products on every page of my sites. This method works great and is responsible for about 25% of the affiliate sales that I generate each month. I design my own ads for these products and put I them in prominent locations on every page. I vary the placement and look of the ads so that a visitor may not even realize that they are looking at an ad for the same product. In this way, each page looks unique and visitors do not become blind to a particular ad (or location) because of its repetition.

So if you are excited about the advertising money that you are making with your site, try including ads for your own, or affiliate products. Used consistently, this technique can easily double or triple the value of each click and the amount of advertising money that you are making each month.

I have been seeing a Cingular commerical that cracks me up every time. It has a mom and daughter screaming at each other. Everything about it says that they are having an argument, until you actually listen to what they are saying.
