I Found A Mountain Lion In My Garage
And I'm Keeping Him
When I first found him in the garage I could hardly believe that a mountain lion had come all the way down into the valley and was here in my garage. He wasn't defensive at all,in fact,he looked as if he wanted me to pet him. So thats just what I did. It was like finding a stray cat on the porch who's hoping you will feed him and allow him to stay. Thats what got to me,his ability to express to me that he wanted to stay. So I told him he could, but he would have to stay in the garage. I let him know that if any of the neighbors were to see him they would become frightened and most likely call the authorities, demanding that he be taken back to the mountains. He seemed to understand,so far I've had no trouble at all out of him.

Spring Treasure

birds | NATURE | spring | wildlife

Spring is here! Yesterday we found the first few of the tiny wild violets which flower willy nilly in the grass here, they are a beautiful shade mid-way between blue and violet, hard to describe in words. The Birds have been singing all day long really loudly. The birds of prey, eagles, buzzards, and kite have been calling, soon we shall see them making their mating flights. So beautiful like an aerial ballet as,in pairs, they swoop, soar and dive in the sky.

Spring??

NATURE | spring | wildlife

Today the valley smelled of Spring, yes, Spring has a very distictive smell. Winter has a very earthy, dank, dark smell whereas Spring has a gentle sweetness in its aroma. It was a beautiful day 15c and sunny and bright.

We walked up to the two agricultural lakes at the back of our land. They are both full up, which is great considering that this time last year they were very, very much lower. The birds have been singing all day long the past few days. I think that Spring is definitely on the way!! Hurrah!!!

Winter Visitors

It is cold here, only minus 0.7c now in late afternoon. We had snow twice earlier in the week but the afternoon sunshine each day just melted it away. My Husband is busy making a bird table. We had put some fatballs out for the birds on a string hanging from a hook (outside) in the window recess of our lounge window but our neighbour's 10 month old alsation put his two front paws on the window sill and calmly ate both the fatballs earlier this week.

Wildlife Loss

birds | forest | habitat | insects | trees | wildlife

So much of our flora and fauna in the UK is in decline, some suffering serious loss. This has not happened all at once, but over the last fifty years.

The countryside is sadly very much reduced in common variety than it was back in the middle of the last century. It is no surprise really as it is mainly due to our collective lifestyle and desire for cheaper and cheaper food. This has led to larger crop fields, meaning destruction of hedgerows, and use of more effective pesticides.
