How do you Promote Your Content?

articles | blogs | promotion | writing

I just spent what felt like an eternity promoting my writing. Will it pay off in page views? Guess I'll have to wait and see.

The method I chose to try was to submit my rss feed url to a bunch of directories. This seemed easier and less time consuming than writing blogs about each article I've written. Every now and then, I'll still post about something here and on my other blogs, but a feed is way quicker.

Your RSS Feed might look like Spam!

money | promotion | rss | SEO | spam | traffic

RSS feeds seem to be the breakout technology for the year. With more users turning to them for driving traffic to their site, it's no wonder that a trail of RSS feed spam is following in the wake. A careful editing of your RSS feed could make the difference between being classified as genuine content or RSS spam.RSS search engines are just beginning to pick up steam. As more RSS feeds become searchable, the number of visitors will increase and spam is sure to follow. It is an unfortunate side effect of free communication. While RSS users can typically unsubscribe to feeds they deem as spam, browsing with keywords in an RSS search engine is where the problem arisesRSS spam largely consists of three main types most often found in the RSS search engines. The first type is keyword stuffing.Keyword stuffing involves filling each RSS feed article with high-value keywords for a specific topic. The articles are not intended for human visitors, but instead for search engine robots to direct traffic to a target web site. This RSS spam technique is nothing more than an adaptation of the typical keyword-stuffed web page, often banned by major search engines. The second type involves RSS feed link farms. These RSS articles often contain very little content, if any, other than a simple keyword. Their main attraction is the feed title. Clicking the feed title takes the user to a blog containing tens or hundreds of other blogs and RSS feeds, each directing to more links within the farm. The goal of this type of RSS spam is to trick the user into clicking advertisements or directing them to a product web site.

MySpace For Business

freelance writing | Get Paid to Write | promotion

I'm always on the lookout for new places to promote myself as a freelance writer - and I found another one this week. I'm a bit of a sucker for email newsletters, though I'm trying to break the habit. Anyway, one of them passed on the following information about a new place to promote yourself and make contacts.

It's called Bizfriendz (affilate link). It bills itself as 'MySpace for business' and it is remarkably similar in the way it works. Like MySpace, with BizFriendz you can set up a profile, including personal, education and professional information. Like MySpace, you can add multimedia to the account. Unlike MySpace, you can earn money by referring people, and more money when your referrals refer other people. I haven't earned a dime yet, but I've only been there a few days.

Doing a guest post today

Today I'm doing a guest spot on a blog called Belle of the Brawl. Sar, the congenial, stiletto-clad hostess of the site, has lots of amusing and thought-provoking stuff going on, including photo caption contests, a weekly (Thursday) guest post, and other audience-participation activities. She is a great one for self-promotion ... so I decided to have a little fun riffing on the topics of promotion and advertising.

Gee. Thanks. Now I'll see my husband less.

My husband got a promotion. Yay, right? Well, not quite. He got his standard raise, which is really not current with the cost of living increase. But he gets a better job title and more responsibilities.

In other words, the 2 days and 3 hours I spend with my husband are interfering with his precious work time. I know I shouldn't bitch. We've both been out of work at the same time before. Still paying for it too. In a hundred million different ways. But honestly, I would really like to live with him again. Say, sometime in the next 5 years or so, if possible...
