The other day, I was sitting in my living room, checking my e-mail on my lap top. My eldest daughter was asleep, but my youngest was still running a muck.

I got a call today around noon. It was my mother. She lives about 10 miles from me. I had found out that she was sick from my sister-in-law Friday night. She said she was short of breath and was really couphing quite a bit. I and my sister-law wanted to take her to the hopsital to get her checked out. We had talked about the clinics all being closed and she would not be able to get in until Tuesday after the new year. We then called my sister and told her what we were going to do. She told us she would call mom and then call us back.

I got to thinking about my dad yesterday. I try not to think about him, because it still hurts a lot that he's gone. And I don't know how to phrase it other than a disturbing figurative image, but I am gutting myself here for the whole world to see. Hell of a freak-show circus trick if I can manage it.
