The Excitement of Being "Boring"

boring | excitement | Fantasy | life | reality

What factors determine if life is exciting or not? I am anti-social and by the standards of many people my age... boring. But those are probably what makes my parents think I'm the perfect daughter. I don't party, I don't do drugs, I don't smoke, I don't drink much (just an occasional glass of wine), I don't go to clubs and bars, and I don't have sex. My idea of fun is shopping for books in the bookstore, going to the theatre, watching a movie, and shopping (window-shopping included). The only time I'm out late is if it's midnight madness in glorietta and I would rather be home with a book and a cup of coffee than be at a hot-shot party place with all-you-can-drink booze. A lot of people would say my life is pretty boring. But who's to say that it is? A combination of loud music coupled with alcohol isn't exactly my idea of fun. In fact, in my own perception, the 'normal' people are missing out on a lot. The only world they know is this one. They see the world as it is and accept it as that.

Harry Potter- His Impact and Power

book | deathly hallows | Fantasy | harry potter | impact | literature | power | rowling | Voldemort

The seventh and final installment of the phenomenal Harry Potter series has finally arrived! I lined up outside Powerbooks Greenbelt last July 21 at 7 am, only to discover that so many others had the exact same idea. It took me about 10 minutes to get inside the store and about half an hour to arrive at the counter and purchase the book. It was a thrilling feeling and I didn't mind the wait a t all. Powerbooks was fully decorated and there was a room of sorts constricted at the activities area that resembled Hogwarts when you entered (that's where they gave free coffee and doughnuts, I wasn't able to get any, though). They had a glass case containing a rather lange snake sleeping alongside several Harry Potter books.

Imagine that after hours of sitting at your desk, chewing the eraser of your pencil, and stressing over what the ending to your epic masterpiece should be. You type the final sentences and spend hours revising until you feel you have finally concluded a work the world would want to read. To prove your suspicions, you take the story to your friends, who read it with gusto and return it with words of praise. You even go as far as to submit it as an assignment for your fiction writing class, and are rewarded with an A+ and the professor’s suspicions of writing success. You might even go so far as to submit it to contests or sell it to magazines who would like to publish the sort of work you do.

Vorduvas: Chapter One

book | excerpt | Fantasy | novel | writing

1

A frigid wind, originating in the high mountains of the north, swept through the tundra of the Life Realm on an unstoppable path to the ice mountains in the furthest reaches of the world. It howled over miles of barren wasteland, picking up strength as it met lesser winds along the way, gathering snow and sleet and hail from the moisture of the south and driving it mercilessly into the towering crags of ice that reached for the sky like frozen fingers. Nowhere did this wind touch a single blade of grass, or the a tree’s canopy. It whistled above the only life, over the chasm of the first clan of Ice Berserkers ever to inhabit that desolate place. They worked tirelessly in their heavy furs, digging through the ice with picks to create tunnels free of sleet and hail, where they might gather with their families and be warm.

Pussy Willow’s Fantasies are Back!

esha deol | Fantasy | Imagination | missing pets

A few weeks ago I wrote about my lack of a fantasy life. For some reason, my imagination took a vacation and I was unable to drift off into a rejuvenating daydream for several weeks. I’m happy to report that my imagination has returned and I’ve been able to reclaim my fantasy life, due, in part, to the assistance of my buddy, Huey. Huey’s quite a little dream-boat himself, just by the way.

OK, Huey. I've made sure your fantasy is preserved for posterity.

This little piece is for Huey, who felt slighted when I didn't deliver a more titillating fantasy about him in my recent post about "Nil by Mouth". Well, Huey, it just worked out that this little fantasy came to me from your point of view. Hope you like it.

Wizards and Witches - a Fantasy Review

Fantasy | magic | optimization | truck tonneau covers

Wizard & Witch's Story
The classic image of a wizard is an old man with a long white beard, flowing robes, and a pointy hat. This image is depicted in Harry Potter's Dumbledore, Tolkien's Gandalf, and most modern images in print and film. There are many different types of people who have historically said to practice magic. They also studied alchemy, astrology, herbology, occultism, and other arcane arts. Wizards are just one example. This page will include wizards, witches (not as practitioners of the Wiccan religion), sorcerers, mages, and occultists. Wizards are defined as males who are lore-masters of arcane and esoteric knowledge and practitioners of magic. Witches are female versions of the same. Sorcerors are similar but are usually associated with dark magic and call upon the powers of evil spirits to do their deeds. A mage is a person who is able to utilize the powers of nature to bring about transformations. Occultists are people who study and utilize occult or supernatural knowledge.

Unicorn and Pegasus - the Fantasy Horses

dialogues | Fantasy | optimize

Unicorn and Pegasus Story
If asked to picture a Unicorn, one would probably imagine a white horse with a silvery, pearly, or golden spiral horn growing out of the middle of its forehead. Indeed, the unicorn has been described as everything from a horse, to having antelope legs, a lion's or boar's tail, the feet of a goat or an elephant, and sometimes a single black horn. Until the 18th century, unicorns were actually thought to exist. They were written about by such learned men as ancient physician Ctesias, Aristotle, Pliny, St. Gregory, and Genghis Khan. Unicorns were mentioned in the Bible several times, most especially the earlier Greek version of the Old Testament They were frequently considered to be a native animal of India. Marco Polo's description of them as being "scarcely smaller than elephants" and "ugly brutes" who "prefer to wallow in mud and slime" makes them sound very similar to a rhinocerous. Anyone finding a washed up narwhal horn on the beach could also get ideas about unicorns. Chinese legends also include a unicorn that they call 'K'i-lin.' This beast was said to be gentle and lucky to see. It has been credited with beginning the Chinese written language.

Fairies: a Look at these Fantasy Folk

fairy | Fantasy | Myth | pay to blog

Fairy's Story
Fairies are found in many legends, tales, backyards and homes throughout the world. The classic image of a fairy is a beautiful little woman with butterfly-like wings. This image is easily seen in Disney's Tinkerbell, Barbie's new Fairytopia, and historically, the famous Cottingly fairies. You also might think of the Fairy Godmother types of modern legend. This includes the tooth fairy. However, in the fantasy realm, there are many beings that are lumped together with fairies (also spelled faeries or called fae folk from Old French - after the latin "fatum" meaning fate. Other types include: gnomes, elves, pixies, sylphs, nature spirits, and mermaids. Mermaids of course, are only found living in the waters of oceans, lakes, and rivers.

American War Casualties | Fantasy

Dragon's Story
Dragons are found throughout the entire world in myths and legends. In eastern asian, the oriental style dragon was often reguarded as a positive creature symbolizing strength and good fortune. Western style dragons are prevalent in ancient stories as well as modern fantasy movies and books. Beowulf fights a dragon in that ancient epic. St. George is a famous dragon killer. Even the Bible mentions dragons. Dragons in modern books and movies include Smaug, from Tolkien's The Hobbit, Draco from the movie Dragonheart, and the Hungarian Horntail from Harry Potter. Dragons are popular magical creatures in role-playing games as well such as Dungeons & Dragons.

The Playboy Bunny

Fantasy | playboy | sex

What makes that playboy bunny so sexy? We're seeing it everywhere. Any guy can pick up a pair of boxer shorts with those little bunnies all over them. I know quite a few girls that have playboy bunny shirts, hats and belts.

We've come to see that little guy as the symbol of fantasy. It's not just about sex...perhaps it is mainly about sex. Still, not just any sex! Amazing sex! It's something that we get our minds reved up for, before anything ever happens. I think when you're wearing a little bit of the bunny, it just helps to get things heated up.

You know how sometimes you are just sitting around with your friends and you start thinking up things that you think would be fun or entertaining. This is not always a constructive activity. It is more about entertainment than anything else.

We were sitting around and one of my friends was telling how he went to the New Balance show store. The clerk (or whatever they call em' these days) didn’t know anything about shoes and kept telling my friend how the shoes were made of a space age material.
