Leash Training: Make Him Walk Nicely On The LeashSubmitted by rawralphadawg on June 11, 2007 - 1:43pm. Countryside | dog training | dogs | Ex-pat | modern lifeOne of the most common problems people have with their dogs is pulling on the leash. If you have a small dog that you can easily hold back or pick up then it might not be such a problem. But if you have a big brute of a dog topping the scales or just enough to outclass you if it unexpectedly pulls, then you have a problem. Even if the dog’s behavior stems from simple excitement this can still mean bad news for you if you’re caught unawares. She is part dachshund “wiener dog” and the other half unknown. She has a brown coat with shades of black , sometimes a folded ear tip (She was born with it completely fold up and looked like she had half a ear.) but as she grew her ear unfolded. MollySubmitted by brittanywills on April 30, 2007 - 2:24pm. dog | dog trainingthis is molly doing her favorite thing, chillin' in the tub. (yes it does have wdog, dog training, ater in it)
About four months ago a friend of mine gave me a cock-a-poo who's name was Molly. We were more than glad to get her we had been wanting a dog for a while. It was only to our benefit that she was full blooded and ACA registered and had already had a microchip in her ear. let me tell you first hand that when she gets loose it feels good to know that the dog catcher will know she is mine. I Wanted My Dog to Run AwaySubmitted by clrexfrd on March 17, 2007 - 7:28am. dog training | vampire; freak; support groupBefore I purchased my beautiful, AKC full-bred, furry canine, I did some thorough investigative research (or so I thought). I read everything I could get my hands on about the type of breed that would be most suitable for myself and my family. I wanted a dog that didn't have a lot of genetic health issues or temperament problems. I crunched all the research results and came up with the "perfect" companion that would truly compliment our family. I received the phone call reporting the birth of my little bundle of joy. Little did I know that eight weeks later would be the beginning of a hell on earth I had never known existed. Was there a light at the end of the chamber of horrors.... My Dog's Second Chance at StardomSubmitted by Brenna Fender on July 26, 2006 - 7:07am. books | dog training | dogs | pets | WhippetsRecently, I wrote about how my Whippet, Payton, was supposed to be in the opening credits to an Animal Planet show, but was left on the cutting room floor (read about it here). But she still got the chance to make a modeling splash in a new book by writer and dog trainer Angelica Steinker, M.Ed., C.C.B.C., CAP2. Payton, along with my Vizsla, Jordan, modeled various agility moves for photos that appear in the book. Payton is featured in some awesome jumping pictures. It was fun to do (although it was very hot out), and we had to do it over several different sessions to make sure that we got all the shots that were needed. Why Training a Dog with a Toddler Around Can Be a Good Thing (sort of)Submitted by Brenna Fender on July 19, 2006 - 7:03pm. dog training | dogs | family life | home and family | pets | raising children | toddlersMy dog training life would be easier if I could have toddler-free training sessions, that's for sure. My nearly three-year-old son went through a particularly difficult period a few months back where he sabotaged my agility practices by running around knocking all the jumps down. He's also been known to stand in the middle of the weave poles, disturb staying dogs, and steal treats off of targets. Hollywood Crushes My Doggie DreamsSubmitted by Brenna Fender on July 9, 2006 - 10:29am. dog training | dogs | modeling | television | whippet | WhippetsA while ago, I wrote an entry about how my dog was "destined for stardom" based on the fact that she did some modeling for the opening to a television show. (Read about it here: My Dog is Going to Be a Supermodel) For those of you who were interested, the first show aired on June 30th to rather anti-climactic results - my precious whippet landed on the cutting room floor. One of My First Attempts at Non-Dog WritingSubmitted by Brenna Fender on July 4, 2006 - 7:42pm. dog training | freelance writing | writingIf you've followed this blog, you know that I am a freelance writer by trade, and that I concentrate my efforts on dog publications. I have written mostly for training magazines, but most often I write non-training types of articles. I've written about flooring surfaces for agility facilities, good vehicles for carting your dogs and dog training stuff around, what shoes you should wear while running dog agility, how to travel safely with your pet, pet insurance, and so on. If it's related to dog sports (especially agility), I've written about it, or I'm writing about it, or I have it on the agenda for the near future. This Dog is Going to Be the Death of MeSubmitted by Brenna Fender on June 27, 2006 - 8:02pm. agility | dog training | dogs | whippetI love my Whippet. I think she's loving, beautiful, funny, gentle, unassuming, and brilliant. And she loves me to pieces, which I like as well. But I love dog agility, and I swear, competing with this dog is going to be the death of me! For the uninitiated, dog agility is a sport in which dogs run an obstacle course off lead. Handlers see the always-different courses first on the day of a trial (which is a single or multiple day event) and get to walk it without their dog so they know where to go and how to best communicate the course to the dog. Dogs get to weave through poles, climb "walls," walk "balance beams," jump, and run through tunnels. It's a fun but complicated sport, where both speed and accuracy are required for success. |
