Global Warming Increases Allergy Problems

allergies | allergy | atmosphere | atmospheric | carbon | change | climate | global | increasing | warming

It is found that climate change due to global warming can affect allergies. Global warming and increased atmospheric carbon dioxide levels from burning fossil fuels can increase the levels of pollen that cause allergies. The effect of global warming and increased carbon dioxide levels on allergies are currently being studied by government agencies, scientists, and doctors. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the Environmental Protection Agency have both cited increased allergic reactions due to climate change as a growing concern for the public in 2007 reports.

while shopping Venice REW noticed an advertisement for an upcoming conference on climate change. Is the water rising in Venice? or is the island sinking in the lagoon? or both?

I'll Take the Heat!

climate | maternity wear | pregnancy

I was starting to think that being heavily pregnant would be easier in the winter than in the summer because of the heat factor, etc.....but now I am starting to rethink that. I gave birth to my son in June...In Los Angeles. It was hot and smoggy, not too pleasant, but I never ran out of clothes that were cute and non-binding. There are so many adorable peasant type tops I got to wear, skirts and such. The best part of being pregnant in the summer, or a warmer climate in general, was getting to wear flip flops.

Seeing as I am 5 1/2 months along, and as big as I was at 7 1/2 months with my son, I am really starting to resent the weather here in Portland. All of a sudden, I am having major difficulties pulling shoes and boots on......not to mention socks. I want my flip flops, but also don't want to lose my toes to frost bite!

And I am not a fan of wearing layers and sweaters and other clothes that bind over my belly. I like to have some freedom of movement (for what little movement I have left) and trick or treating with my son last night in 38 degree weather with high winds wrapped in a hat, gloves, shirt, sweater, coat & scarf made me feel like a sausage about to burst out of its casing. Not fun. I think a little sweat and some gauzy tops with sandals is much more up my alley.......*sigh*.

My Magical Powers

bedsheets | climate | magic | weather

I've decided that I have magical powers...or maybe my bedsheets do. For the past 6 weeks, it has yet to fail that when I change my sheets to accomodate the weather (i.e. flannel for cold weather & cotton for warmer weather) the climate changes overnight.

Honestly, every time it is cold, I make the bed with our flannel sheets only to have weather in the mid 70's pop up out of nowhere the next day, and when I change back to the cotton ones so that my husband and I don't end up bathing in sweat while we are asleep, there is frost on our window box the next morning. What? Hmm......Maybe I should try conjuring up the winning lotto numbers......

Daffodils And Robins

climate | flowers | NATURE | spring | weather

Oh, what a beautiful day! Makes me think of spring, green grass (no mower...just grass), tulips, and daffodils.....and robins.

It won't be, can't be, long now. As soon as they get those maple syrup buckets put away, we can expect that special miracle to happen any time.....in all it's verdant wonder.

You don't need a weather man
To know which way the wind blows
Subterranean Homesick Blues, Robert Zimmerman (Bob Dylan)

Oh, you didn’t know that was his real name? Now you do. Anyway, Bobby, you might be right, but don’t tell anybody at the National Weather Service. Not to mention AccuWeather, Intellicast, the Weather Underground, or (heaven forfend) the Weather Channel.
