charity | dead car
Well, the nice man with the tow truck just left with my little car ~ ol’ Possie is off to do some good, I hope.
Just before New Years I decided to donate my little work horse to a women’s and children’s shelter for the tax break and they’ve finally been able to fit us into their pick up schedule. I’m actually quite impressed as the time frame I’d been given was between 8am & noon. Anyone who’s ever had to wait like this knows how that usually goes! But, they arrived just before 9: 30am! Not too shabby!

charity | clothes | shopping
My husband got a new job (he's a supervisor now, yay!) and he needed to go shopping for some new clothes. His last job issued uniforms, so those wouldn't work for the new position with a different company. Besides, he's lost over 35 pounds since our last shopping trip!

Cars | charity
My husband and a bunch of his friends meet each Thursday night and work on cars. Their 'shop' time takes the place of most men's sports team. They work on cars, and when they are fixed, give them away.

celeb watch | charity
Two of my favorite celebrities are in the news, again, and they didn't even have to get arrested! No one got tanked, or drove a car like it WAS a tank. Sorry, no sex tapes or even nude pics. They're making headlines by helping those in need.

I have five children of my own and I recently lost a child. This lost was not due to a medical problem, but due to a negligent driver. I have always wanted a way to help children because they are what makes our future.

I’ve just finished sifted through the freezer and the kitchen, looking for food that we can spare. I’ve come up with a lot, a frozen pork tenderloin, muffin mix, spaghetti sauce, frozen hamburger and some weight control oatmeal that I’ll never touch to name a few.
This time of year many of us are looking through our cabinets gathering can goods for the less fortunate. For me this year my sister is one of the less fortunate. I’m packing up all of these “goods to bring over to my sister’s house.

Does anyone here sponsor any children overseas?
Earlier this year, I participated in 2 different sponsorship programs. The first place was called Compassion. I selected them first because they teach Christianity to the children overseas. I ended up sponsoring a boy from India.
The second place that I sponsored through was the Christian Children's Fund. They were cheaper every month.
Due to financial reasons, I wasn't able to keep sponsoring for very long. I really enjoyed the experience though, and I loved corresponding back and forth with the kids.

In the town where I live there is one small grocery store, a Food Lion, and unless you want to drive 30 minutes to Williamsburg, you run out and get your milk at Food Lion. Right behind the grocery store is a retirement/nursing home.
Every once in a while, when I go into the store, there is an elderly black woman walking around or just standing wearing her big purple bathrobe. She’s always smiling and says hello to everyone. The first few times I passed her she said hello and complimented my daughter, I said thank you and smiled, but I was in a hurry those times. Although I felt badly because I knew she only wanted someone to talk to, I rushed passed her because I was busy and because I figured she would want to keep me there all day. Well the other day I was picking up some milk and the old lady in the purple bathrobe was there by the milk. I had plenty of time that day so I stopped at talked with her. She said hello, told Briar (my daughter) and I how sweet and beautiful we were and then she said bless you and walked off smiling.

Money is a means to better the world.I mused on a hot summer day, whether the billions Bill Gates' charity has to spend on the worlds needy and now Warren's, will actually make a difference? I pondered what would I do to change the world for the better if I had such funds? I bounced some of my world solutions off my brother while we waited on Sunday dinner.
I decided that the best use of the billions would be to build infrastructure in the neediest thirld world countries.

Celebrity | charity | J.K. Rowling | MS | multiple sclerosis | research
Thousands of people regularly contribute money, time and other material efforts to charity causes. However, it seems that those who usually get recognized are the celebrities and otherwise ridiculously rich. Am I bitter? Not at all. If a celebrity can call attention to an otherwise unnoticed cause, then sure, give them credit. According to a recent news report, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is among the ranks of those contributing to important causes.

assistance | charity | Make Money
This weekend I came across a family in my travels that I truly felt Sorry for. Unfortunately the only thing I could offer this family was a kind word or two. But what really drew my attention was the magnetic smiles her four children exuded. It must be great to not know how bad things are really off for your family. I wish I could regain all that innocence , but of course I have to deal with too many real world problems in my own microcosm.

breaking my new rule | charity
I made a rule for myself that I can only post here once per day, because I have other things I should be doing. I need to be more productive. I don't care if I am "in the lead" anymore.
I am breaking the rule because I just found a new search engine that donates to the charity of your choice every time you use it, and I want everyone who reads this to know. Of course it is free to use. I usually go to dogpile.com to do my searches, but I am all about charity, so I will go here instead from now on.

There's a great site on the internet called freecycle.org . You can find almost anything from freezers to couches to childrens toys. There is a listing by city & county for every state. Basically, instead of donating items to charities that will sell them, people list things and pick a reader who can really use it. You'd be suprised at what you can get. Everything is always 100% free of charge, you just have to go pick it up. There's a lot of really awesome things. My husband is a big card collector and one man was giving away boxed collections of football cards. I was also able to get a granite countertop, tools and scrap booking stuff.

CHARITY, n. Evidence for the existence of disposable income, usually obtained under circumstances that created the need for the charity – as when the moneyed interests in Gulf Coast cities invest profits and tax dollars in sports megastadia, but not in the means to keep those stadia, or the people that resort to them, above water.
Ah, Charity! Afar your chanting sounds!
