New Sports Blog

This is my new sports blog and I am only one post in, but what better post to start with than the first game of the NFL season.
I would like you all to take a look at it and I will be updating it often to keep up with most sports events. I will cover sports including but not limited to the NFL, MLB, NCAA, Basketball, etc. I have a passion for sports and this is why I started a sports blog. The name of the blog is SportsRUs. http://sportsrus.today.com/

MLB-Unselfish Offense Spells Consistency

I don’t know if it is just me, but has anybody else noticed that Major League Baseball for the most part has seemed to have gotten away from the fundamental team offensive approach and developed more of a “wait for the 3 run inning” mind set. When I mention fundamental team offense, I am speaking of situation hitting, in particular, advancing a base runner from second to third with no outs either by hitting or bunting. If you sit and think about it when you watch a game, there are several at bats in every ballgame when a selfish approach by a hitter, with a man on second and no outs, fails to get his job accomplished and leaves him stranded at second. Now instead of a sacrifice fly or ground ball, it takes a base hit by one of the next two hitters to score. This probably averages out to 1 or 2 runs every game and probably a fairly significant difference in the win/loss category. Of course, I realize that hitting a major league pitcher is very difficult and it isn’t always possible to hit a ball to the right side or lay a bunt down, but I feel that if this objective was the mind set of every hitter in that situation the success rates would be much higher.

Here we go again. i started a new blog that is all about celebrities and what they have been up to lately.

This is a pretty cool blog because you can find out which celebrities have recently entered into rehab and who is going to court next.

Fantasy Sports

I played in a fantasy sports league this year for the first time. I played in a basketball league. I thought it would be real simple. You pick the players you want but there is a salary cap which means that you can't load your team with nothing but all the best players. I was doing good the first couple of weeks but had to really spend a lot of time researching what was going on around the league with the players and all. Had to keep track of what teams

Okay, I'm jumping the gun just a little bit, but man, this series to date has looked more like a professional team versus a college team. At least last night Colorado put up a little bit of a fight, but then they were summarily dismissed as the posers they are.

What Sports Is All About

A couple of weeks ago, my wife asked me what the big appeal was to sports, and why people bothered with it. She's obviously not a sports fan, but even being one, I couldn't figure out an articulate way to get it across to her.

Mets and Red Sox

I hate baseball! Okay, that's not true, but man, I'm really not in the best of moods this last week of the regular season.

How the heck did the Mets lose a 7 game lead with only 17 games remaining? How is it that the Red Sox can't seem to get that big win to finally keep the hated Yankees from winning, dare I say, their 13th straight division pennant, when at one point this year they had a 14 game lead?

Little League Parents

Driving back from walking at the lake today, I decided to go a different route so I could wash my car.

The way I went took me by this elementary school, which I knew was there, but also by a little league baseball game, which I didn't know was played there because I never noticed the little baseball diamond that was there. I think it's relatively new, because I've lived in this area for decades now, though it's probably been at least a year since I've been on this street.

BASEBALL CARD SELLS FOR $2.35 MILLION !!!

$2.35 Million is a lot of money for a piece of cardboard with a picture on it and thats the amount that was paid for a 1909 Honus Wagner, considerd by some as the best one out of about 60 known to exist, it is in pristine condition. These cards were inserted into a pack of cigarettes at that time - not a good thing in todays world.
Honus Wagner played for the Pittsburg Pirates and was one of the first five players inducted into the hall of fame.

Of Bean-balls, Name-calling, and Hooah In a Desert

So the manager of Major League Baseball’s Chicago White Sox, Ozzie Guillen, is going to sensitivity training.

Guillen got frothing mad at a columnist for a Chicago paper (Jay Mariotti, Chicago Sun-Times) and called him a name. Look it up if you want. I don’t care. Everybody knows that by calling somebody a name, any name, you’ve conceded the argument and are trying to win by a sucker punch. Even Bud Selig, the kindergarten teach … sorry, Commissioner of Major League Baseball, the very same one who brought you bottle blonde Barry Bonds, digs that. Which is why he demanded an apology, which Guillen gave to the offended group of people named but not to the columnist, and sentenced Guillen to the class.

Sports Betting. NO FREE Picks >:0

The NBA Champion was crowned last night. Unfortunately I did not have a chance to write about it today. Where there’s a will, there isn’t always a way nowadays. Anyways, as anyone who reads my blog knows, I picked Dallas to win. I was wrong. I admit it. But what have we learned here. Numero uno: Pat Riley is a great coach. Now I knew he was a very good coach, but he did most of his damage with the showtime Lakers of the 80’s. I was still a twinkle in my father’s eye back then. He had some good years with the Knicks and in his first stint as the Heat coach, but he didn’t win anything. When you don’t win, it tends not to matter how good you really are. Today, Dwayne Wade is everyone’s vote getter for best player in the league. A month ago he was just very good.

Although hockey’s post season is arguably the greatest and most exciting, I have not watched much. But last night was different. Last night was Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals. In realty, you have to watch the game that decides it all in any sport, especially a game 7. Due to living on the west coast, my lengthy commute from work, and an errand or two, when I walked in the house the second period was coming to a close. The Carolina Hurricanes were leading 2 goals to none.
