Well, I have weathered another sprinkle of a storm. My third surgery in just a year and a half. My gallbladder decided to stop working and become diseased. It has caused me pain for a while. Finally, on Easter I had a very painful attack. I already had scheduled my surgery, but when I called the Dr. he bumped it up. I'm so glad.
The gallbladder is a small organ, close to your liver on the right side of your body. It's function is to concentrate bile from the liver. Then, it expands and contracts like a balloon when the intestines need bile to break down the fats in your diet. Many people have gallstones, usually made from cholesteral, and don't have any symptoms. Or, as in my case, I had no gallstones, but had symptoms. Symptoms of a gallbladder attack are pain under the right ribs, pain in the right lumbar section of the back. I also had more acid reflux, nausea, and fatigue.
My surgery was done as an outpatient. I had just four small incisions, one for the scope and the others for the instruments. Doing the surgery with scopes cuts down on complications and recovery time. I will only be off of work for two weeks. Some people can even go back after just one week, but don't tell my boss!!
I am on the mend again, but this time it's pretty easy going. I'm so thankful for the new technology for performing this surgery. The world of technology and medicine never ceases to amaze me.
