Close to where I live someone feeds the birds along the side of the road. It is across from a large industrial site. Apparently, he was feeding them just outside the building and attracting a lot of pigeons. THe employess complained since what goes into a pigeon eventually comes out again, and in this case on the employee's cars. So he was forced to move his bird feeding gig a short distance from the plant.

THe cool thing has happened though is that since the birds do not eat everything, there are now lots of sunflowers growing wild at this location.

This is the season for sunflowers and they add a bright splash of color to any room. Sunflowers work best in simple arrangments, frequently alone in a vase. Use a large vase since sunflowers are heavy flowers and you would not want them to tip over. Cut the flowers to differnt lengths for the best effect. If you really feel you need to add something else, use some black eyed susans to complement the sunflowers.

Another decorating tip is to cut the sunflower off right a the flower and float them in a bowl of water. Use an attractive crystal bowl for the best effect.
