Suing James Frey?

I just read the most ridiculous thing ever. There is a mob of people from Seattle, Los Angeles, New York, and other cities suing James Frey’s publisher and the publishing house. They claim it was a waste of time and are suing for lost time while reading it. If that’s the case why don’t we just sue Shakespeare? I like Shakespeare, but I’m just illustrating a point. A lot of books out there are a waste of time. This is insane. I understand people are sour but why can’t we just leave it at that? No, some people have to take it one step further because of their bruised nerves. It’s just another frivolous lawsuit and illustrates once again that people would rather sue for money than earn it. This public backlash just shows that we are not a forgiving country. We like to think we are, but people make one mistake we cast them out and then we sue. Let me set the record straight. It’s a goddamn book. A book. It didn’t discriminate against you and get you fired from your job; it didn’t miscalculate your taxes, so Jesus Christ quit pouring salt in the wound. And get this. There’s this social worker suing as well in her own separate lawsuit for 10 million. She claims it’s on behalf of her patients because she would recommend A Million Little Pieces to them because of it’s theme of redemption. Listen shit for brains, the theme of redemption is still in the book and always will be. Just because there were fabrications, that doesn’t change the THEME of the book. If one of her patient’s falls off the wagon and relapses with cocaine then jacks off in a bowl of split pea soup, it won’t be the books fault. The real reason she’s suing is because she’s a damn social worker and saw her chance at some easy cash. It’s just awful how greedy people are. This whole display has just shown the nature of our society. We are a greedy, unforgiving, hypocritical society. He shouldn’t have lied, but people are acting like a bunch of tittie babies. Come on let’s act like grown ups. Take off the diapers and let this whole ordeal blow over. For those of you that can’t and are seeking easy money, I hope you don’t win shit.

I actually mostly agree

I understand why some people are angry and feel like they were lied to. I think he did owe people an apology and a note in the front fo the book (which is going in).

Suing, though? Time to take a deep breath and stop fishing for coin.

Another point of view

But look at it from a different angle. If he can make money using unscrupulous methods, then why not his readers too? Why do you cut him slack, but not them? Thats the problem with the lying.....being unethical ....in the first place. What it does is make a slippery slide that everyone want to jump on...sets a bad example. If nothing else, maybe this will warn other authors...keep it honest.

Well put...

Good point. I see what you are saying, though I think it is sort of up to SOMEone to stop the circle of unscrupulous behavior.

Well put. You made me take pause and think.

too bad we cant sue churches

too bad we cant sue churches and publishers of the bible, promoters of the ridiculous assumpitve "faith-based" blind belief in "the greatest story ever written" which contains mostly politically driven lies under the guise of spiritual "truth".. the harm done in the name of the bible over millenia is much broader and more profound than some dumbfuck just writing a stupid book about his life in which he made up some stuff- who fucking cares?
people are so brain dead they cant even see whats right in front of their faces. the energy put into suing a fellow citizen excercising his right of free speech makes me think this country WANTS to castrate itself masochistically instead of realizing what really matters- that same energy could be used to impeach the asshole who lies every motherfucking time he opens his screwed up little trap.

let me ask this

No matter how I do this, it will likely come across as aggressive and invoke quite the response, but I will do my best. I am going to ask questions to which I really do want to know the answer. I enjoy the exchange of ideas in debate, but when it gets personal I dont...anyway:

Why does one doing it wrong justify the other? I mean if it is indeed okay for him (Frey) to do it then can you really complain about the bible? I mean either it is okay to lie or it isnt in a book, am I understanding that reasoning right?

The energy could be used to impeach? I don't follow. Whose energy? The people suing Frey? The general public? I don't think congress has been worrying about Frey and that is who impeaches so I am a little lost. SEriously, explain it and I will give it to you.

Also, bare in mind that aside from the idiots suing Frey I dont think anyone has really accused him of breaking the law. His book has not been pulled off the shelves and he is not under arrest. His freedome of speech is intact. The people who are mad (not me, I didnt by the book nor do I intend to whether it is true or not) are because they feel duped. The ones who are actually suing, though, are idiots.

I dont understand this theme that prevails all over the place of in essence not worrying about one thing because something else is more important. Maybe you don't, I dont know, but I have enough belief in people that I think they can be concerned or angry over more than one thing at a time. If we ALWAYS prioritize and only worry about what is on top, then that would be nice, but I know taht I worry about things less important than the state of government all the time. THat doesnt mean I am not concerned about that as well. I was pissed last night because I could not find my keys. NOw, I had access to my wife's keys and there are much worse things in the world, but yea I was worried and pissed.

Alright, feel free to attack.

Two words...

Frivolous Lawsuit.
