Suicide Among Soldiers

Submitted by seanlovett on February 3, 2008 - 10:59am.

The US Army is reporting that suicides among soldiers has risen to 5 per day. Before the start of the war in Iraq it was less then 1 per day.

What is it going to take, aside from a change in leadership, which isn't coming soon enough, to put an end to this?

In his last state of the union address, President Dipshit pretty much made it clear that the next president would inherit this mess (among all the others that he's created) because he has no intentions of trying to fix this problem while he's still in office. Well, that figures.

Then there's McCain saying things like "We could be in Iraq for the next 100 years." No wonder soldiers are killing themselves, they see no end in sight!

It's time to swallow pride and admit that we (read: they) were wrong and put an end to this. Our soldiers are dying in a war that should have never been started, that was based on lies and profiteering, that has made the original problems (Afghanistan, Bin Laden) forgotten, and has created more enemies for us.

This whole mess is very reminiscent of Vietnam. I remember the stories my father told of what it was like and how he was treated, when he came home, by the government not the people.

I've seen first hand what this ridiculous war has done to it's soldiers. My old friend from high school - the one who brought us to Big Spring - has been dealing with it in her husband. I've seen it myself. Imagine being at war and faced with the "choice" of either killing children so that you can go home to your own kids or not. And, then imagine being back home with those kids and having to LIVE WITH your choice! I have been terrified (like everyone else close to him) that he'll eventually kill himself. That's not said with any amount of lightness. He struggles every day - not with the memories, but to stay alive.

This may sound a little cliche, but it's also true that they train these people to make these types of decisions and to kill and then expect them to just turn it off and be normal when they come home.

Unfortunately, as has been proven time and time again, it just doesn't work that way. Does our government do anything about it? No, because that would shed light on a subject that is far too negative and could possibly detract from their "the surge is working" misdirection.

Come and see what I'm rambling about now

Correct! Correct! And dare I say it? CORRECTAMUNDO! It is absolutely disgusting to me that DIPSHIT had the balls to even give that speech...for starters it bored the living hell out of me and then the IDIOT was positively smug in his demeanor...UGH! He likes to believe that his Presidency will be judged in the history books, and he believes he will be dubbed the president that ended world terror...NOPE he will be judged as the President that bought the States into an illegal war, then spent billions of dollars and borrowed billions more on our fucking good credit. He will be known as the man that bought this country into a recession. He is the only President that also swore to UPHOLD the Constitution which he has systematically tried to mold to his and his global, corporate, greedy cronies agendas! FUCK HIM! The man can barely put together a decent sentence...wanna bet the "library" they put up to honor him will be the MOST expensive one built yet for any President? And WE the people pay for it with our very hard earned taxes! Don't get me started! HRUMPH!

Over the holidays I saw something on TV that mentioned how much money is spent in one YEAR to help the homeless in our country. I cannot remember the amount, but it was about a tenth of what we spend on this war EVERY DAY!

Um, so which side of your head is vein throbbing?
