The US Army is reporting that suicides among soldiers has risen to 5 per day. Before the start of the war in Iraq it was less then 1 per day.
What is it going to take, aside from a change in leadership, which isn't coming soon enough, to put an end to this?
In his last state of the union address, President Dipshit pretty much made it clear that the next president would inherit this mess (among all the others that he's created) because he has no intentions of trying to fix this problem while he's still in office. Well, that figures.
Then there's McCain saying things like "We could be in Iraq for the next 100 years." No wonder soldiers are killing themselves, they see no end in sight!
It's time to swallow pride and admit that we (read: they) were wrong and put an end to this. Our soldiers are dying in a war that should have never been started, that was based on lies and profiteering, that has made the original problems (Afghanistan, Bin Laden) forgotten, and has created more enemies for us.
This whole mess is very reminiscent of Vietnam. I remember the stories my father told of what it was like and how he was treated, when he came home, by the government not the people.
