Last week there was a conference of Islamic leaders, and one of the topics discussed was the perceived notion that Islam is being slandered by most countries around the world that don't believe as they do.
And what was their solution to this? They have decided that they're going to fund something that will allow them to not only sue those who they feel have slandered the religion, but those countries that "allow" those entities to slander them also.
Of course most of this is aimed at the United States, but the first entity they're going to try to go after is that newspaper in Norway that allowed the cartoon of Allah as a dog to be published, as well as suing the government of Norway.
For some reason, a big part of my mind immediately started screaming "Haven't y'all learned anything about how the world works now?" As a for instance, when Sony decided to go after these guys who figured out a code that broke Sony's movie encryption and posted it on their website, over a million other people posted the code on their websites within 3 days and Sony pretty much had to drop the lawsuit. After all, even Sony didn't have enough money to sue everyone on the blogosphere.
I'm nothing is not a major purveyor of diversity. I don't hold religion in much regard in general, mainly because of nonsense like this, but I don't condemn anyone who holds a belief of any kind. However, I will guarantee that with the very first lawsuit I will join what I assume will be many others in saying something that will definitely be perceived as slanderous, and dare any of these countries to come and sue me for it. What folks want to do in their own countries is one thing; what they try to force on the rest of the world, especially the United States, is another.
Who here is ready to join me when that day comes?
