On September 30, 2007, I wrote a blog entry bemoaning the fact that our beautiful home in Fort Wayne, Indiana had been sitting empty, waiting for eight weeks for a buyer. Well, unfortunately, we are still waiting for a buyer and it has now been 5 1/2 months that our house has been sitting empty. In the meantime, we have lowered the price twice and had the interior repainted. Still, with all the real estate bashing news that seems to come out on a daily basis and the terrible economic news, we can't seem to draw a buyer. It seems that our house is always #2 on everyone's list. It is very frustrating. We now have over $1,000,000 debt between the two mortgages. My husband moved us all here because his work situation in Fort Wayne was looking bleak. Better pay and more opportunity awaited us here in Northern Virginia. Now it looks like this whole thing has turned into a nightmare. My husband does indeed have a higher paying job here and he likes it very much, however; we are now facing the very real possibility that he will have to take on another job and I will have to re-enter the workforce after being out of it for fifteen years. I am going to be looking for ("affordable") childcare for two of my children and I will be forced to rework the way my household is run. All of this, while not tragic (yet) will have to happen if our house in Fort Wayne does not sell by the end of next month. Our dreams of a better, easier life have pretty much been thrown out the window for now. Stress upon stress is what we have traded for our peaceful life in Fort Wayne. I don't like it much. Our oldest daughter will be going to college in three years and we will have very little money for that if things don't improve soon. I am sure we are not the only ones in this situation. It is a shame that so many Americans are seeing their lives change so drastically. There are so many who are not as fortunate as we have been, I cannot even begin to imagine what they are going through. We all need some good news so that we can be hopeful for this new year.
