I took an Argument and Debate class in college. Since I like to argue for the sake of mental exercise, I once took a position in favor of sweat shops. My reasoning for doing so was that since I wear so much Nike footwear and apparel, who am I to disagree.
If you had not heard, the Houston Texans selected Mario Williams, not Reggie Bush with the number one overall pick in last weekend's NFL draft. While everyone else gawks at this decision, I will try to defend it.
The Houston Texans play in the AFC South. Indianapolis also plays in the NFC South. How can you beat the Peyton Manning and the Colts without defense? You can't. No team can outscore them. But if you can stop their offense you have at least have a shot at beating them. Tennessee is not a realistic threat anytime soon, especially when they either release or trade Steve McNair. Then there's Jacksonville. I don’t think anyone is picking them to win the Super Bowl, but they're certainly a threat to win 10 games with that good defense and Leftwich at quarterback. Mostly they win by physically dominating you. Mario Williams is 6’6 and weighs 290 pounds.
I keep hearing that if the Texans would have chosen Bush they would sell more jerseys or more box seats. This may be true. But for how long if you’re team is not winning. Winning cures all ills in sports. Listening to the fans will get you fired. Listening to the fans would have made the Jets choose Matt Leinart with the fourth pick. Or trade half their draft and a linebacker in order to swap spots with the Saints and draft Reggie Bush themselves. Then again I have never seen a player like Reggie Bush in my life. Ah well, no one really knows until the games are played.
In Vibe Magazine 20 questions style, how good is the new show THEIF? Would Andre Braugher be a household name if this show was not on the FX channel? Here’s the deal:
NBA Playoffs: my record is pretty bad at this point
milwaukee(+12) over DETROIT-You may not want to put your faith in this pick based on my reasoning. It's just a hunch because the closest game was decided by 11 points. I feel that there has to be a close game in here somewhere. Billups is a nightmare match up for T.J. Ford, but I think this will be decided by 6 to 8 points...That's relatively close.
washington(+5.5) over CLEVELAND
MLB:
NATS over marlins
braves over PHILLS
giants over BREWERS
ASTROS over cards
reds over ROCKIES
cubs over D BACKS
DODGERS over padres
blue jays over RED SOX
angels over TIGERS
yanks over D RAYS
WHITE SOX over mariners
RANGERS over orioles
TWINS over royals
ATHLETICS over indians-this pick is a test to see how travel affects a baseball team. Yesterday the Indians were in Cleveland. The A's were in Anaheim.
