Sports and boys

What is it with sports and boys? My son can make a sport out of anything!

Just recently I told you about an art project that my son turned into an athletic event (see Art Projects for Toddlers: My Son and His Markers). Recently I was impressed to find that he could make even something as simple as transporting oranges into a sport.

Together we picked a bunch of oranges with the intention of making juice. Apparently I learn nothing from prior experiences (see Things That Sound Like a Good Idea to Do With Your Two-Year-Old But Aren't).

I asked him to move each of the oranges from his cart to the sink to be washed. I went into another room for a moment and then I heard "thunk, thunk, thunk." I returned to the kitchen to find him lobbing oranges into the sink from ten feet away. I must admit that, for a toddler, he's got tremendous aim.

Unfortunately he apparently began his sporting event by tossing the oranges in various directions before deciding to focus on using the sink as a basket. I think I'm going to find oranges under different pieces of furniture for a very long time.

Boys and sports. The relationship certainly begins early!
