Skin Care For The Poor

A | and | cheap | pores | skin care

I’m writing about this for all who may want to try my little concoction for reducing pores and improving the look of your skin. I did a lot of searches online before leaving Sacramento and discovered that a lot of homemade facial scrubs involved trips to specialty stores, which in my opinion, kinda defeats the purpose. Hey, I was looking for something I could whip up with the crap I already have! And, as my move date approached, I decided to take what I’d learned and make something up myself. This *may* already be out there somewhere, but I didn’t find it.

*Facial Scrub.
Mix equal parts:

SALT (kosher or un-iodized)
BAKING SODA
BODY WASH

That’s it. Just mix them all together in the air tight container of your choice and use. Currently, I’m using a quart sized ziplock bag to house it, but will transfer it to something permanent in a minute. The only thing with this mix is that you’ll need to use a container that allows you to mix it before each use, since the baking soda & salt tend to separate from the body wash. This takes only about 6 seconds to remix, though. Oh, and I’ve recently discovered that the un-iodized stuff in the big box works better than the larger grained, kosher variety. It’s easier to work with and just seems to mix better. Sugar is also an option, but I actually found that it dried out my skin big time! So, I immediately switched back to the salt.

With the reading I’d done, I found that hands down, those three ingredients seems to be in most scrubs. So, I figured, why not just use those three and skip the “fancy” stuff???? And, ya know, washing my face with it twice a day has actually improved the look and feel of my skin, but also reduced my previously heinous pores! Now, there’s one other thing that really *should* be added to this routine that I’m simply unable to do right now.

*The 10 minute egg mask.

1 egg white
1 tsp. lemon juice

Simply mix it up, apply it to your skin and let dry. Rinse. Use this *AFTER* the scrub and you will have the most glorious feeling skin you can imagine! That’s the only real down side to it is that you’ll risk that un-cool fingertip grease by the fact that you can’t stop touching your face! *Ahem* Well, that and I’d use this mask when alone if at all possible! Sadly, this mask *does* look a lot like, em, freshly squeezed swimmers, if ya catch my meaning. So, you’ll be risking some silly jokes if anyone sees you before it’s dried! (Trust me, I know!)

I found that one online and at the time it seemed too simple to work, but damn! After the first two uses I saw results! I’d be using it now if I had a refrigerator to store the egg whites! But, until we move into the new place and I *do* have one, I’m using an old trick my grandmother used when I was a kid ~ vitamin E oil (direct from the capsule).

So, there you have it. And, if you visit your local dollar store as I did, you can have the ingredients for your facial scrub for a whopping $3.00! Actually, mine was less since the box of baking soda was priced at .59 cents. That’s also where I found the vitamin E capsules, by the way. It may not have the pretty smelling oils and other crap that the fancier scrubs have, but it works and that’s all I care about!

Let me know how it works for you!

Very cool, Spooky.

You glamour-puss!

I've been using scrubs like the one you concocted for ages and I absolutely swear by them. But I never put in the baking soda so I'm going to have to give that a try. And I use sea salt, which you can get at the grocery store - don't know about the dollar store. The difference is the minerals that haven't been processed out of the sea salts and they're really good for your skin.

I've never tried the egg white mask but I'll definitely give it a try and let you know how I like it. Sometimes it's fortunate that I live alone. Wouldn't want to give anyone any ideas. (eeeeewwww-yuck!) :-D

I kind of assumed, PW

that you were using something like this already. I'd prefer sea salt for this, but didn't find any at the dollar store (which is closer than the market). So, tried the regular, non-iodized stuff and it's working great. It eve feels better than the other stuff!

Seriously ~ try the egg mask! You'll be hooked from the first try! I am seriously bowled over at how soft and smooth my skin is when I use it. ;-)

Ya, let me know how it goes!

Me too, PW!

especially lately! Man, I am looking way too much like my bloody age! That crap MUST STOP! I'm still planning to get that little wrinkle device you suggested - now that we're getting settled and I soon will have a reliable address! The war over my skin is ON!

Cooking, cleaning and gardening, Hutts.

All that stuff is tops on my list. After all, women have to please their men first, right? LOLOLOL!!!!!

But seriously, if we're beautiful on the outside, won't it be a little bit easier for you guys to forgive us if the roast is overdone? :-D

You just might...

get away with it but don't burn the roast too often! LOL

Also, you can make a hair

Also, you can make a hair treatment that uses eggs, mayo, a little milk, and some avocado. The smell is horribly wretched, and you want to leave it in as long as possible without it drying (egg white is a motherclucker to get out of your hair). Your hair will be SOOOO shiny and soft.

Motherclucker...

is that spelt right?

Yeah.

When you're talking about eggs it is. ;) (Or when you want to avoid being censored.)

Good one, IG

I'll give the hair thing a try after we move. My hair has become a huge issue the past couple of years! I went from needing only to wash it for beautiful, envious hair to witch hair! Yuk!

great idea for a cheap

facial. In this day and age, with the cost of everything, I think getting back to basics is a more affordable idea for most of us. I hear nothing but good results from these recipies. I am going to do this, thanks.
I also remember my aunt using eggs and mayo on my hair when I was only about three or four and how shiny my blonde hair turned out.

It really works, ammorton

I wanted to use it for a minute before saying anything ~ just in case it was crap. LOL

My family really wasn't into herbs or any home made treatments. Weird when you consider my grandparents and parents southern backgroud!
