Sippin' Up some Wine

My wife and I aren’t wine drinkers simply because we haven’t really found a wine that we like the taste of…until now. I received the Madrona wine in the mail through a special offer and decided to try it. I figured, “Hey, even if I don’t like it, I have a cool bottle to display.” One sip and we were hooked, though. At first, it was a little dry. But once the initial taste was over, we continued to drink – first from the white wine and then from the red. We even had some friends over and they enjoyed it as well. “Where did you get this?” they asked.

Before I go any further, let me say that our wine experience is so limited that we couldn’t even figure out how to get the cork out of the bottle. I was afraid it was going to shoot a hole in the ceiling or something like that. But it didn’t.

The wine from the Gold Medal Wine Club also came with an informative newsletter. It has a breathtaking picture overlooking the Madrona Vineyards in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The inside was even better as it had charming stories about the family that created this delicious wine. The picture of the family just couldn’t be any more adorable. The eight page glossy newsletter was chock full of great information, all of it geared towards wine and the wine industry. Being an information sponge, I read it right away and just now read it again before writing this post.

Like I said, we’re not wine lovers. I would, however, recommend this wine to even the most picayune of wine drinkers. The family takes pride in their product and it absolutely shows. I think I might be checking out one of their wine clubs for a few friends as Christmas gifts this year as well.

I don't know how to resize the picture. I've been working on it for about an hour now.

LOL! I tried replying to the other one, and it disappeared on me. Glad to know the post is here after all.

I only recently got into wine, and I've really just dived into learning everything about it. My favorite so far is a REALLY dry Chilean wine. It's got cherries on the nose, and it's like drinking liquid leather mixed with chocolate and coffee. It's really interesting, and not like anything I've tried before.

By the way, with corkscrews, I read an excellent tip. Don't get the kind that looks like an oversized screw. Get the kind that looks like a cartoon pig's tail and actually spirals. You can find a gadget at places like Bed, Bath, and Beyond that suctions to a table top and you just lift a lever. So easy, and it won't destroy the cork at all.

I got into it because my sister got me a red wine last year for Christmas, despite knowing I detested reds. I'm sorry to say that the kind she chose wasn't any good either. But it was the first time I could actually taste anything other than the typical red wine taste. It wasn't much, and knowing what I know now, I should have dumped it down the sink. lol But it was at least a step in the right direction. I tried another bottle, not that good, but I wanted to "understand" it. lol The bottle after that was the one I loved, and I've been hooked ever since. I'm still a long way from understanding it, but I have surprised myself at how much I've learned and come to appreciate about reds.
