Okay, could somebody give me some feedback here?

As many of you know, I'm doing a lot of personal research into Christian beliefs and nonbeliefs.

My newest question is this: Should Christians watch (or read) Harry Potter - why or why not?

Actually, I've seen all of the movies, as have my kids. I have the latest one to watch tonight.

I would like to hear from Christians and non Christians alike on this subject. What do you think?

Only if you are interested

Only if you are interested in them. ;)

Seriously, real witchcraft has nothing to do with saying a few bastardized Latin words while waving a stick. I think a parent should be more worried about a few broken teeth from trying to fly on a broom than their kids becoming actual witches.

If nothing else, the book has some solid life lessons to teach. There are good and bad people, and sometimes a good person will appear bad, and sometimes a bad person will appear good. In the end, their deeds prove them out. And no matter how the books end, it teaches kids that sometimes doing the right thing comes at a huge personal cost.

And as a bonus random thought, it is CRIMINAL to put Ralph Fiennes behind all that makeup!! Sure the guy can act pure evil like nobody else, but he could have been hot while doing it. Then again, I don't think they intended to make Snape into a sex symbol, but if you read a message board anywhere, that's exactly what has happened. Sorry. I just needed to put that thought out there. :D

I don't get why some groups

I don't get why some groups are trying to ban it. It's a fiction book. They need to realize that. I'm sorry but if you banned every book in a library that offended someone, there probably wouldn't be any books there, including the bible. And truthfully the bible has much worse stuff in it. Not to mention that what Jesus did could be thought of as witchcraft of a different sort because he does perform things no one else can. So I say anyone that is interested should read the books or watch the movies and realize it's not real, it's just set in a real time.

Harry Potter... (far from real witchcraft)

Ivy Alexander Says:

I have spent almost my entire life studying many different spiritual beliefs. From the time I was 5 years old I was a church hopping fool... My family thought I had an illness the way I went about it. You name it I was there wanting to learn it.

So I can tell you first hand that Harry Potter is fantasy only! Witchcraft is far from what you see in the Harry Potter books and movies. Disney has genies in a bottle, a sea witch casting spells, and magic carpet rides... And those books are filled with witches, wizards and magic. But you find them in most libarys if not all. Children need fantasy and escape with books. They need to exercise their imaginations. As adults do too.

The Lion King taught us of metaphysics. Death and dying and life after death and that we are all linked to each other. If you and your children enjoy Harry Potter then read and watch and don't give a damn what others think, it's your life! I watched Bewitched everyday as a child... It didn't ruin me.

for children. Perhaps they will be more likely to read the Bible now. I think there is lots to learn from Harry Potter.

Read it

The fact that some parents and groups are trying to stop kids from reading it just ridiculous. If they are really concerned, they should remove their televisions from their homes.

Anyone who "bans" either a book or the

movie that comes from a book needs to think about Hitler and the Nazis who also would burn books and murder anyone intelligent enough to write them....this is the USA, not Nazi Germany circa 1935. I always look to see where the "threat" lies. Harry Potter is no threat to anyone with a brain...only those that fear the unknown, which make the unknower dumb as hell, and that is where we need be worried! Fools are dangerous!
