A shoe which fits comfortably prevents several problems associated with foot. The golden rule while shopping for shoes is that never shop for shoes at the beginning of a day. This is because during the morning hours mostly the foot will be contracted due to the overnight rest. At the end of the day, when your feet have swelled from walking and standing is the right time to buy shoes. If you are in the habit of exercising, buy athletic shoes after the daily routine of exercise.

If you felt a slight discomfort when you worn a new shoe, do not buy it. This is because the problem will not get better. Some people suggest that the initial discomfort tends to go after sometime. This should be ignored as the slight discomfort can damage your feet.

There should be a space of one-centimeter from the tip of your longest toe to the end of the shoe. Always try out both shoes before buying.

If you are having calluses and corns, buy shoes that will not do more damage to those areas. For those suffering from bunions, shoes with sufficiently large toe boxes are ideal.
