I'm somewhat of an anti-tv parent. I don't think people who let their kids watch tv are bad parents, because I do turn it on from time to time. Usually though, I prefer that my daughter not watch televison. I just don't see any need for it. She has so many toys to play with and she loves to look at books and to be read to.
Well this morning, she was not a happy girl. She wouldn't stop whinning, crying, and screaming. For nearly 45 minutes that's all, she was constantly doing one of those three things. I had no idea what she wanted. She wasn't hungry, she'd been changed, she had a sippy cup, she didn't want to sit with me. She only stopped cyring when I stood up and held her. There are a few reasons why I cannot stand up and hold a 30lb girl all day, but we wont go into that. So I resorted to television. I turned on the t.v and looked for some sort of child's program. I found "The Doodlebops" now for those of you who have seen the doodlebops...I'm sorry. For those of you who have not-steer clear of the disney channel in the morning, it could give you nightmares. Despite the horrific visual and crappy music Briar found the show to be rather entertaining. ***Sigh*** everything I worked so hard for is going down the drain. She was supposed to have good taste in music. I played James Taylor, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and so much more great music for her while she was in the womb!
Therefore I plan to develop a course of action to counteract the child terrorism that is THE DOODLEBOPS. I have one idea in mind. My first is to make my own movie for her to watch, in desperate times like these. I will compile all of the home videos I've taken of her, she likes to look at herself (because my baby is as vain as her mother), and put these videos to music that I approve of. Good, wholesome, classic rock, folk rock, straight up rock, some alternative, hell I'll even throw some Stevie Wonder in there.
Other suggestions in this area would be helpful...i mean really what's next? Barney? Oh God Save Me!!!!!!!!!!

Television has been my savior

Brenna Fender Says:

My son was very, very fussy (acid reflux) and is now very, very active. Television is the only thing that gives me any sanity. How old is your daughter? Have you tried the Baby Einstein videos? The Wiggles aren't so bad either. I also have Noggin (an all preschool channel). I find their shows to be better than Disney's.

Good luck!

thanks brenna :) but my daughter is 1 and since she hasn't been exposed to much tv she's usually just not interested. I use it in "emergency cases" (Mommy is going to freak out b/c I don't know what you want, lol) and those happen rarely, but when they do sitting with her and watching the colorful things seem to calm her. I have seen some of those shows though and I'd say they're good choices. I don't think there's any harm in letting our children watch a little t.v., as long is doesn't serve as a constant babysitter, would you agree? Moms need a break too and it's one of the only ways many of us can get one!
