Sexual Hidden Messages in Disney Movies - Fact or Fiction?

Submitted by realitycheck on June 28, 2006 - 7:24am.

Is it truth or Urban Legend that there are hidden messages in Disney Movies? For over 10 years people have argued that Disney has slipped in Sexually explicit innuendos into almost every movie they have produced in the 90’s and before. Remember that a single slide is only on the screen for a fraction of a second, so it is often hard to spot.
Here’s some of the myths:

Aladdin –

In Aladdin, at the end of one of the major songs if you turn the volume very high, you hear a voice say "All good girls take their clothes off!" its almost unnoticeable you are blasting the volume or are sitting close to the speaker.

Myth or Truth?
Truth! I have heard it for myself! Although it is hard to distinguish if it says “All good girls take their clothes off"? or just mumbling then “Take your clothes off."?

The Rescuers –

The pornographic image of a naked woman can be spotted in the background of The Rescuers. Approximately 38 minutes into the film, as Bianca and Bernard fly through the city in a sardine box strapped to the back of Orville, the Albatross Air Charter Service, the photographic picture can be seen in the window of a building in the background in two different (non-consecutive) frames.

Myth or Truth?
Truth! This one is totally true because on the 8th of January, 1999, Disney announced a recall of the home video version of their 1977 classic!

Beauty & the Beast -

In beauty and the beast, apparently there is a dildo in the large dance number with the candlestick and the teapots.

Myth or Truth?
Undecided. I have watched the movie and have not seen the mystery dildo, but I have heard many people swear that it’s there.

The Lion King -

In the lion king u can see the word "sex" appear in the dust when Simba lays down.

Aladdin's script calls for Aladdin to say, "Come on, good kitty. Take off and go." Which makes a LOT more sense than "take off your clothes" considering a tiger is threatening him. Also, they have an audio clip, and I think after hearing it, this is what it says.

This one is true, but not just because they had a recall. Again, check the site for proof. The recall could have been done to jump start sales or because recalling it seems like more of a responsible thing to do, even if it were not true. See Little Mermaid for an example.

Beauty and the Beast- no clue. It's not addressed on the site, and I haven't heard this one before.

Lion King- again, the site has a pic. It's supposed to be "SFX" which are the common Hollywood abbreviation for "Special Effects". But, who knows. Disney says no, and I tend to believe no, because even when you know what you're looking for, it's kinda vague.

Little Mermaid- it's the guy's knee, not an erection. Compare the photos on that site to see why I say that. The Castle itself, I have no clue, unless (bringing me to the next rumor) it is the Castle on the posters and cover of some VHS tapes. On this one, I don't know. My mother-in-law has that VHS tape, and I gotta say that it sure does look like a penis. Now, whether the guy meant to draw one, I don't know.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit?- they go with undetermined. See, it was darker, but nobody is saying whether the color charts for the person that does all the coloring in of the drawings was ambiguous, or whether it was intentional. Also, they are unable to find out whether it was Eisner's phone number, because it disappeared before it was put on VHS. What is much more shocking is that there is a scene where Baby Herman storms out, and he walks under a woman's dress. He extends his middle finger just before going under her skirt, and walks out with drool on his upper lip. This was intentional, but the film itself was geared towards an older audience than the usual Disney fare.

Snow White- true, but the intention wasn't sexual. Doc is the dwarf that says it, and he's always mixing up his words like that throughout the movie.

Wizard of Oz- I'v seen this. At first, it sure looked like it might be true, but it has finally to my satisfaction been proven false. Read the last paragraph, right before additional information, at this site for why I think so.

Good blog though. I am an urban legend junkie, and these are some of the best ones that exist. The reason is simple. There is a grain of truth, and sometimes more than that, for each one. Urban legends such as the boy born with only a head and no body that was put into a burlap bag of leaves is so unbelievable that it is no fun. These are just believable enough to make you wonder. :)

But if you want to be like them, you'll have to emulate. -Ayria

I agree, urban legends are fun

I heard about some of these when I was growing up. I don't care if they're not true. It's more fun to believe that they are ;-)

Oooh, did you ever hear the one about Three Men and a Baby? Supposedly you can see a little boy standing in the window in one of the scenes... and they said he actually fell on the set and died, or something like that.

One day, my siblings and I watched the movie specifically to spot that scene ... and we found it! We were so freaked out we ran out of the room screaming! I'm getting the chills just thinking about it. Later I read it was a cutout of one of the actors or something like that. Whatever. Not in my head. ;-)

In one of mine on another site, but since BP doesn't support Trackbacks, I don't think you'll get a notice.

But, to clear up a few things:

The phallus on Little Mermaid is on the back of the box. It is real. The guy got fired and snuck it in there as revenge. I think the guy was sued or something, I don't recall, but I have the box. Disney also reissued the box, with new art.

The scene in Lion King is real, but Disney said it's supposed to say "SFX"... except, animation is, technically, all SFX and the scene is where the little boy lion lays with the little girl lion, and wakes up "a man." I mean... what would be a "SFX" in a cartoon, anyway? How the heck could you tell, unless it were done in a completely different medium?

The silhouette in Three Men and a Baby is not a ghost image, but a prop that was left there by mistake and the scene was not reshot.

true, not true, and another myth

I agree with Intricategirl about the Aladdin myth. The scene is supposed to happen when Aladdin is on his magic carpet at Jasmine's window doing the Romeo thing. When Rasha comes at him he tries to make him leave and says "Good kittie, take off and go." But I can see how people can mistaken it. I've listened to it myself and it does sound extremely close. Also in Aladdin is another myth that Abu curses! It is said that in the Cave of Wonder when the lava is flowing and Abu is on those stepping stones and they start to blow up around him, he looks around and says "oh S****!" I have no been able to tell if this one is an actually myth or bust, but I will tell you it really does sound like he is cursing.
For the Wizard of Oz one, it is definitly a myth that there is a person hanging from a noose after Dorothy meets the Tin Man. It is not true at all. The movie set next to "The Wizard of Oz" involved animials including large birds like emu's and crane's. Some of them got loose and wondered into Oz. The director let them stay saying that it gave the scene a garden feel. Anyway, that is what is in the background- A big bird!

I remember the Abu one!

I watch everything my daughter watches. She only watched shows on Noggin. I will admit I did let her watch King Author & The Notebook which I shouldn't have. I do not let her watch anything over PG now. She is getting to the age where she wants to know everything. I'm just waiting for her to ask me where babies come from. I also used to work at The Disney Store. I know some of the dirty stuff that they do.

I think I gotta agree

I do know for sure that the Little Mermaid original case is true. My mother in law has it and its there. My sister in law did say that the guy got fired and slipped it in for revenge and Disney had to do a recall. And if I remember right it sounds like Abu dropped the F-bomb. true or not it makes the movie more fun to watch bc you're lookin to see if it is true.

I have recently started a blog about reviewing childrens movies. Unfortunatly though my mom went in the hospital and I haven't had time to review but one. Some the things you mention, I have heard of. What really gets me now though is the free cursing that has been allowed in the kids movies. Shrek, the word ass is used quite a bit. My grandaughter who is 2 started saying this word. It took us a bit to figure out where she picked the word up at. I understand that is what a donkey would be called, just as a female dog it called a bitch. But I don't want my little ones saying it. Also when donkey and Shrek are walking though the garden and they have the dicussion about onions, Donkey says Damn, when refering to parfait. For the life of me, I just can't imagine how they think that language is appropriate for a kids movie. What are they thinking? I wish I could interview the writers, producers and directors.

Shrek is SOOOO not a kids movie, no matter what the rating. It took me a while until a friend pointed it out, but the king in the first one- ever thought about his name? REALLY thought about it? King Farquaad. Say it just right and it's "King F*ckwad". Not too hard to beleive given the character. The crap they snuck past the censors on that one is astounding.

Yep - your right!!

I think it's not so much the "sublimanal" message it's more of the obvious things that catch you, like making Ariel in the little mermaid a very curvy and sexy fish, like the one kid said in the movie "American Pie" "do you think Ariels HOT!" also at the end of the movie during the closing wedding scene she puts on the "bedroom eyes" as she waves goodbye to the people around her. Just thoughts. straightshooter.

Yeah, I've seen that special on one channel or another. I tend to think it's true. I think similar things happen in video games often as well. The latest version of Grand Theft Auto had a porno embedded in it and the game had to be taken off the shelves. Some genius programmer put it in there.
