I have just used Google Trends to find out search trends in the Philippines. Compared to money and business|entreprenuership, sex is tops. One thing I can say, based on the search trends, is that we are an amorous country with Cagayan De Oro topping the list. It really makes me wonder if pineapple is an aphrodisiac.
I have also tried comparing other keywords like; training, education, jobs, careers, work, outsourcing, call center, medical transcription, camera phones, marketing, internet marketing, marketing trends, IT, blogs, blogging, you tube and SEO.
Based on the results, SEO is not being searched enough.
One of the factors foreign companies consider when outsourcing work is availability of qualified manpower. They would want to have a ready pool should the need arise. The human resource issues they have to consider are recruitment costs, training expenses, turn-over/attrition, business expansion and wages. Without a qualified manpower base, companies will not readily enter a country or outsource jobs to it.
Building a pool of qualified SEOs requires training and certification. Minimum performance standards acceptable to companies/clients have to be met. To attract talent for training, Pinoys must have awareness of SEO as career.
The challenge to the Philippine SEO sector is awareness generation.
