Severe Cyclone devastates north Queensland.

Tottie's picture

News is just coming to hand of the damage to everything in the wake of tropical cyclone Larry which crosssed the Queensland border, in tropical Australia, this morning around Innisfail causing widespread damage.

Massive building damage, widespread damage to sugar and banana crops, (millions of dollars worth of banana plantations have been wiped out). Flooding is occuring due to the heavy rains, people are homeless, and devastation is everywhere.

It has been declared a National Disaster and all government and community services are springing to acation to aid the people so dramatically affected by this cyclone.

Another cyclone is headed towards North Queensland.

I will add more information as it comes to hand.

I Was JUST Thinking of You!

It's so crazy, I was just thinking of you. I just watched the news about 25 minutes ago and saw the damage. There were two things I thought - 1.) I wonder if that is by Tottie? and 2.) I hope Steve Irwin is all right!

So is this effecting you? I hope you are ok!

Thank you

I am further south - much further, and apart from heavy rains (which we are hoping for) we are unlikely to feel ay other effects. Steve Irwin should be OK too - unless he is up north. There are warnings and non locals are evacuated. No lives have been lost which is amazing (well at least it has not been reported).

I too was wondering ...

... though I checked out the cyclone path on The Weather Underground and figured it was well north of you, and probably Cairns (where I have colleagues) would only get a glancing blow as well.

Prognosticators seem to think the second cyclone (Wati) is too close to Larry and will be weak when it hits land. We can only hope.
