Turn on the news at any hour on any given day, and you will hear it. The United States, as well as all other countries are going to hell in a handbasket. When I think back over this week alone, I cannot come up with a single news item that I read, listened to, or saw that wasn't about how bad things are in the world in general, and in the United States in particular. Here is a sampling of the news I came across just this week: the FAA is corrupt and airplanes are unsafe, the economy sucks, Hillary Clinton's tax return is "hiding" something, the housing market stinks, credit card companies trick people, retail sales are down, the majority of people in America think the country is in big trouble, gasoline prices are at an all time high and are expected to go higher, the climate is in crisis, preschoolers are being charged with sexual harrassment, military morale is at an all time low. . . on and on; you get the picture. Wouldn't a little good news be great right about now? How about something like this: GM has come up with an affordable family-sized vehicle that runs on trash!, or this: Osama bin Laden has been captured and his cohorts have laid down their weapons, or this: Greenhouse gases are good! Food production is at an all time high!, or this: A cure for cancer has been found and will be available for use within one year! Woundn't these sorts of things really lift our country's spirits? It seem like we could all stand to hear something positive! I can dream, can't I?
