Secrets of a Successful Freelance Writer

gracepub's picture

Here is a list that I comprised from several 'full time' freelance writers.

1. Do all the reasearch first.
2. Keep researching until you find one fact that most of the other writers don't talk about, or better yet, know about.
3. Make a point form outline of the article.
4. Take one last look to see what style of prose, grammar style, and voice the periodical, publicatioin, or web site favors.
5. Write the article
6. Cut 10% of the words.
7. Check grammar.
8. Put away for two weeks.
9. Try to cut one more word per line, and strengthen any words/verbs you can.
10. Let someone proofread your work.

Last, submit it within ten days.

Last, take a course, or teach a course.
