SciFi Fan = More Intelligent

I've been hanging around the official Firefly fan website lately. I don't visit it often because I get melancholy about the show being cancelled because Fox TV execs are a bunch of idiots. Anyway I digress. Checking out the new posts on the site that I haven't visited in about three months, I thought about something my mother-in-law told me in Jan when SciFi channel ran a marathon of the shows. She told me that she had read something about people who like and watch SciFi shows and movies are more intelligent than those that don't. I thought it was interesting at the time.

But now I started thinking about it and why that statement has to be true. My reason is that people who like those kinds of shows understand the strange concepts introduced, the unusual creatures that exist. And people who don't like the shows, don't know what to think of these weird items. Thus people who understand these things are smarter because they can wrap their brains around what doens't actually exist in our world today. Or at least that we know of.

I want to do some research and see if I can find this article she read and told me about. But I don't think I'm too far off on my reason.
