School is intended to promote mediocrity!
Whatever high ideals it may or may not have been established with, public education is really just an extension of the vapid consumer economy which is our society. The world does not want thinkers, rebels, artists or philosophers. It wants corporate drudges who can endure the endless labor necessary to maintain an increasingly huge and ineffectual civilization. Kids now graduate high school with only the barest conception of history or how to write. They then expect to go out into the work world and earn big money with minimal thought. School is designed to pump out the kind of clones who do not possess enough independent thought capabilities to do anything other than work a dull job and watch TV.
End today's rant.

If...Then?
If this is true(and I somewhat agree), then what do you propose? Many people are beginning to see the downside of letting the government take responsibility for the education/raising of their children but are they willing to do what it takes to rescue their own children from the system or to change the system? The abdication of responsibility as the primary educators of our own children is what has created this monster! These are only my strong and admittedly hard opinions that surely need further explaination.
