Saving Money - No 1

We'd just been talking about getting a new washing machine - the current one was some 15 years old and whilst working quite well, is showing signs of age.

So we decided that "one day" we'd get a new one.

Within days the thing seemed to have gone cranky. It wouldn't empty the water. In all its life with us, it had never done that. MM (mere male) tried and fiddled, and eventually decided that he'd call in a repair man, and it was almost a week before he could attend. Meanwhile I washed by hand and delayed allunimportant washing.

On the day the repair man was due,I stood in front of the machine, and thought. Then I discovered the problem. Accidentally the "drip dry" button had been pushed in - thus stopping all wash cycles before emptying and spinning.

With one press of a finger, I had solved the problem. Almost simultaneously MM phoned to say he was meeting the repair man at our home in 30 minutes.

"Quick, ring him now. I've fixed it."

So a frantic phone call was made (thank you cell phone!) and we saved ourselves a lot of money.

I can't imagine how annoyed I would have been to pay the $90 call out fee - just to press a button that we had overlooked!
