Acne is a skin condition that affects thousands of people. It's not just a teenage thing.

I've dealt with acne since I was 15 years old. One morning I woke up, and it was there. Over the years, I have seen doctors and tried different treatments. One doctor prescribed treatment really helped. It was called Benzaclin, and it worked wonders. I was told to use it twice a day, but used it only at night. It kept my skin clear, and I didn't have the redness and irritation that I have had with other acne medications.

Before using Benzaclin, I tried Proactive. I was very unsatisfied with this product. It made my skin raw and red. My skin felt very dry, and after a few weeks, I stopped using it completely.

As much as I liked Benzaclin, I didn't like the price. I stopped using it, and I started looking for a cheaper over the counter product. Finally, someone told me about Salac. Salac is a great facial cleanser for acne - prone skin. You simply wash your face with it 2 - 3 times a day. No prescription needed. You can get this at Wal-Mart, but you might have to wait a few days while they order it. Dermstore's website also carries it. After using this for a few days, my skin got really soft. I had no more breakouts. I don't have to use any additional products. It doesn't make my skin raw. It's wonderful.

Having acne can really bother you. You feel less attractive and that hurts your self esteem. Plus, acne can get serious. My acne is considered moderate. I actually had cystic acne. An acne cyst is pus-filled and painful. Most of the time, it does cause scarring.

With the treatments they have now, you can have clear skin. Different treatments work for different people. The best thing you can do is go and see a dermatologist. They will be able to discuss treatment options with you, and you can decide on a plan of action at that point. With the technology that we have these days, they can even help with scarring.

In the meantime, go to your local pharmacy and see if they carry Salac. It's a wonderful and affordable product.
