As I was channeling surfing last night, I saw a commercial I could scarcely believe was real. Tonight A&E will air the Rock, Paper, Scissors championship.
How do you get to be champion of this “sport�? Better yet, how does this qualify as a sport in the first place?
We all remember this from our childhood. Three gestures: Paper covers rock. Rock breaks scissors. Scissors cuts paper. Some of the more creative kids I knew, apparently frustrated with losing or real obsessed with winning, invented a gun gesture. I think it was supposed to trump all other moves. My friends and I never used it so I’m not too clear on it.
Anyway, we are going to crown a new “sports� champion tonight based not on any real skill but on the person’s ability to outguess his/her opponent’s next move. And I thought sports had reached the lowest possible low with competitive eating.
